Zack Snyder revealed that his favorite part of Wonder Woman 1984 was the way Diana Prince used the Lasso of Truth in the film. The Lasso of Truth has long been a hallmark of Wonder Woman’s arsenal. Its first appearance in the comic books dates all the way back to 1942. Among its many powers, the weapon also helps Wonder Woman reveal her enemies’ true intentions.
The Lasso of Truth has already been seen multiple times in the DCEU. It made its first appearance in Wonder Woman’s debut, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, the Lasso has appeared alongside Wonder Woman in both Justice League, the character’s first solo feature in 2017, and now in Wonder Woman 1984. In the most recent film, released on Christmas Day, Wonder Woman uses it more than ever before.

In a question posed to director Patty Jenkins on Twitter, DCEU extraordinaire Snyder asked Jenkins how the Lasso of Truth came about in the most recent film. Snyder also revealed the Lasso to be his favorite part of the sequel, citing the action sequences where she uses it as a particular highlight. Snyder was particularly curious about how Jenkins and her team developed the particular techniques used in the film. In her response, Jenkins said that a lot of research and development went to exploring new ideas for the Lasso, like if it’d be possible for Diana to generate enough speed with it she’d be able to block bullets. While early in the DCEU, Wonder Woman’s use of the Lasso may have been limited, fans get to see it in its full glory in the new film. There are several major set pieces where Wonder Woman uses the Lasso, including when she saves two children from a barreling military caravan in Egypt and during her fight with Barbara Minerva a.k.a. Cheetah at the White House. The most exciting moment, though, comes when Wonder Woman uses it to learn how to fly, whipping her way through the crowds.
Snyder’s sly questioning is also a fun hint at Diana’s future in DCEU after Wonder Woman 1984. The director questions the development of the use of the weapon, expressing a keen interest in its utilization. Could the director be prepping for the reappearance of Wonder Woman in one of his own films? Wonder Woman 3 has only just been announced, but that does not mean fans won’t get a glimpse of her in future DCEU films. Seeing as Diana Prince is one of the franchise’s most popular characters, she is sure to appear again with the Lasso of Truth. It’s just a matter of when, not if.
