Producer Says ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie Currently Has No Release Date; Don’t Expect Trailer Soon

Horror

The most recent release date we were provided with for the new Mortal Kombat movie from Warner Bros/New Line was January 15, 2021, but as you probably figured by now, that’s no longer the plan thanks to the ongoing pandemic upending the film industry. This highly expected news was confirmed by producer Todd Garner in a tweet sent out this week.

Garner, the head of Broken Road Productions, tweeted in response to a Mortal Kombat fan: “We won’t have a release date for the movie until theaters re-open. Same for trailer.”

Todd Garner also notes that the team is “shooting a few more days,” additional filming that was originally supposed to take place way back in March. Essentially it sounds like promotion for the movie will be entirely on hold until theaters are back open for business and the world starts to return to normal, at which point we can expect a new release date and trailers, etc.

Hang tight. We’ll get there. Be like your favorite MK characters and wear a mask!

The new movie is produced by James Wan for Atomic Monster, written by Greg Russo, and directed by Simon McQuoidBenjamin Wallfisch (It Chapter Two) is composing the score.

We’ve been promised a Rated “R” movie with gory fatalities.

The cast includes Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Chin Han as Shang Tsun, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, stuntwoman Elissa Cadwell as Nitara, and Sisi Stringer as Mileena. Lewis Tan is playing an unknown leading character.
