Batman Fan Art Imagines Ben Affleck’s Return To The DCEU

Movies

Batman fan art imagines Ben Affleck’s return to the DC Extended Universe. Since DC began establishing its answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Affleck has been the definitive Batman. He began playing the character with 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He followed that up with Justice League, though that film was ultimately a disappointment for Warner Bros. As a result, Affleck will reprise his role as Batman in the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League, which releases on HBO Max next year. Many assumed that would be the last of Affleck’s Batman, as the DCEU turns its attention to Robert Pattinson, who will take on the role of Bruce Wayne in next year’s The Batman.

However, DC just surprised everyone with the announcement Affleck will return as Batman for the upcoming The Flash movie. The film will do its own version of the classic Flashpoint storyline from the comics. This will allow both Affleck and Michael Keaton’s Batman from the Tim Burton movies to appear. What’s more, it won’t affect DC’s plans for Pattinson’s Batman, which should relieve those looking forward to his take on the character. Though the Affleck return announcement is still new, eager artists have already begun imagining what it will look like.

As such, ApexForm recently took to Instagram to offer a take on Affleck’s return to the DCEU. It’s a striking image that speaks to the impact of Affleck reprising a role most assumed he was long done with. Check out the Batman fan art below:

It seems likely more fan art will emerge in the next few days, as artists process Affleck’s return. Since The Flash doesn’t release until 2022, there’s certainly plenty of time to imagine what it will look like. It’s also exciting that relatively little is known about the role Affleck’s Batman will play in the film, aside from being an important figure for Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen. Hopefully, when The Flash is finally able to start filming, more information about the movie, including Affleck’s role, will be released.

Coupled with the reveal earlier this year that Henry Cavill is in talks to reprise his role as Superman, DC is full of surprises. Many assumed the franchise was ready to move on from the Zack Snyder films that started it all, only for them to announce the release of the Snyder Cut. Now, it seems the DCEU’s two biggest heroes, including Batman, aren’t yet done. It’s clear the film series isn’t quite ready to let go of its past, even as it looks toward the future.
