Marvel’s Shang-Chi Movie Restarting Production By the End of July

Movies

Marvel Studios is planning to restart production on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings by the end of July. Announced as part of the Phase 4 announcement in 2019, Simu Liu is set to star as the Master of Kung Fu in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Less than a year after he was cast, Liu was filming Shang-Chi in Australia in early 2020, but production was shut down in March due to coronavirus with no clear sign of when filming could resume.

According to a new report from Deadline, cameras will be rolling again on Shang-Chi by the end of July. Marvel Studios is currently prepping for production to resume and are taking “careful steps” to do so. No exact restart date has been determined, but all cast and crew who have to return to Australia will be subject to a quarantine that meet the country’s travel requirements.

The possibility of Shang-Chi resuming production in late July would mean that the work stoppage will come to an end roughly four months after it began. At this time, Marvel Studios has the film slated to hit theaters in May of 2021, so this return could allow for that release date to be met (as long as more delays do not come). Shang-Chi‘s positive steps forward also continue a trend of good news for MCU productions. WandaVision will reportedly resume filming in July and wrap up what remains of production, while The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is hoping to finish nine days of filming in the Czech Republic this fall.
