The Batman Writer Working On Orwellian Movie 2084 | Screen Rant

Mattson Tomlin, currently known for his work on Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman film starring Robert Pattinson, is now working on 2084, a new movie being developed at Paramount Pictures. Tomlin is a new name around Hollywood, but the 29-year-old writer is working hard to establish himself as a power player in the world of big-budget provocative blockbusters. In the wake of his work on movies like The Batman and an as-yet-untitled science fiction film starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Netflix, he’s just landed his next big Hollywood gig.

According to THR, 2084 is described as a “spiritual sister” to 1984, the seminal 1949 dystopian novel by George Orwell. Plot details on the film are tightly guarded, but producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is best known for his work on blockbusters like Transformers, The Matrix, and the upcoming Infinite, starring Mark Wahlberg. It’s too early to say for sure, but it’s possible 2084 will offer an action-packed take on 1984‘s story of totalitarianism in every aspect of society and the futile-but-righteous revolution against the powers-that-be.

In addition to 2084, Tomlin has numerous other projects in early development, including Fear Agent and Memetic, both of which are adaptations of comic books. Both projects are being developed at Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures. Tomlin is also attached to a cinematic version of the popular video game series, Mega Man, which has recently experienced something of a modern renaissance thanks to a series of re-releases of its classic games and the launch of Mega Man 11.
