Justice League Actor Would Love To Shoot Martian Manhunter Snyder Cut Scenes

Movies

Harry Lennix confirms he would be on board for Zack Snyder’s teased additional photography for Justice League. Following extensive reshoots on the theatrical cut and an ongoing push for Zack Snyder’s original version of the DC team-up movie to see the light of day, the Justice League Snyder Cut has become the stuff of legend. Adding even more intrigue to it is Snyder’s tease that it could also have more scenes incorporated into it, a notion that would have seemed outright impossible a year ago.

Snyder teased additional filming for his Justice League cut through the prize of a fan poster contest for the movie, with the prize being the slate used for the movie’s principal photography. Included on the slate was a message granting the winner entry on-set for hypothetical additional filming of scenes involving Batman, Superman, Lois Lane, and Martian Manhunter, who Snyder revealed last fall to have been hiding in plain sight in the DCEU as General Swanwick. Needless to say, this would only cast Snyder’s unreleased movie in an even greater aura of mystery than it already was.

During an interview with Comic Book Central podcast, Harry Lennix commented on the matter, saying, “I would love to do that” when asked about participating in Snyder’s additional filming. Lennix also shared his support for the Snyder Cut’s release in general, saying, “I hope that it will be seen. I really do.” Additionally, Lennix also offered some new behind-the-scenes information on the making of Justice League.

General Swanwick and Superman

Specifically, Lennix revealed that Swanwick’s planned appearance in Justice League was cut as a result of the movie’s script rewrite before principal photography. Lennix also felt that despite this, Snyder would have “shot that scene” of Martian Manhunter’s reveal anyway, while also confirming that he was unaware of Swanwick being Martian Manhunter before Snyder making it public. These comments offer some new context for what Snyder had in mind for the unveiling of Swanwick’s secret in the movie.

Snyder revealed Swanwick as being Martian Manhunter through a storyboard posted to social media. With the post, Snyder confirmed that he filmed the entire scene in question save for the character morphing back into Swanwick, with having intended to do so later before his departure from the movie. Going off of this, it seems that Snyder did ultimately manage to reinsert Martian Manhunter back into the film, with the scene lacking only an appearance by Swanwick.

Due to Snyder’s social media reveals, and numerous other events relating to the film, the topic of the Justice League Snyder Cut now looms large over the DCEU. Where the world previously could not agree on where or not it even existed, it is now something that the cast and crew are all but inevitably asked for their thoughts on in interviews, with more and more vocally supporting its release. With Lennix now being the latest to do so, any decision on its publication or additional photography, like much of Hollywood’s current output, is now at a standstill due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Nevertheless, Lennix’s comments add yet another footnote in the movie’s ongoing and highly unprecedented tale.
