Marvel’s Universe Was Almost Overrun By Sexually-Charged Symbiotes

Over the years, there have been plenty of interesting directions creative teams have gone with Venom’s symbiotes and his relationship to them. However, one rejected pitch would have seen symbiote spawning season lead to symbiotes overwhelming the entire Marvel Universe.

On Twitter, writer Rick Remender (Deadly Class) has been revealing a number of rejected stories to Marvel that never made it past the pitch stage. Those pitches include an Avengers team that saw the resurrection of Captain Mar-Vell, a follow-up Avengers run to Avengers: Rage of Ultronand a Spider-Man pitch that involved radioactive bug villains. This week, Remender revealed a rejected pitch for his Venom run – which involved quite a bit of procreation from Eddie Brock and the Toxin symbiote.

Remender’s pitch was titled “Plague of Venom/The Symbiote War.” In Remender’s Venom arc, which starred Flash Thompson as Venom, Eddie Brock, who was bonded with the Toxin symbiote, would have went “into heat” and start a mass procreation bid. Essentially, it would have seen Eddie and Toxin have some sexy symbiote time, leading to a mass influx of new symbiotes and spores being spread all over. Remender’s pitch had the mass procreation spreading at such a rapid pace, that it overran the Marvel Universe – leading to new symbiote warlords in different parts of the world, including Carnage becoming the king of New York.

The intense spread of symbiotes would also lead to heroes being immediately overtaken. In his tweet, Remender showcased a symbiote version of Captain America. His pitch has Venom team up with the uninfected heroes to save the world from the symbiotes.

Remender’s breakdown of each issue showcased a pretty bonkers story. It featured a fight between Toxin, Spider-Man and Venom, Carnage escaping from jail, Eddie dying after trying to stop the spread of symbiotes, and a cameo from the Secret Avengers. All-in-all, the pitch is quite fascinating. It would have been a lot of fun to see the Marvel Universe overrun with symbiotes who can’t stop mass procreating.

How exactly would Venom and the remaining heroes who weren’t infected stop a plague of symbiotes? That’s a great question. Stopping a single villain infected by a symbiote has proven difficult, facing off against thousands at once would have pure insanity. Remender’s pitch would have been a lot of fun to see come to life in the pages of Venom.
