Following the 5-hour crossover, the second half of The Flash season 6 has had a recurring mystery involving Harrison Wells. With the season’s current version being Nash, the doppelganger has been trying to figure out why he keeps seeing versions of himself. The biggest foreshadowing of Reverse-Flash’s return was when a Sherloque hallucination warned Nash that “he is coming” at the end of “Grodd Friended Me.” While the hallucination initially made it seem that it was Eobard just posing as Sherloque, the red eyes and the speed-vibration was simply a warning. After several past revivals, Eobard’s latest return is perhaps the more intense one yet on The Flash.

In the 14th episode of The Flash season 6, “Death of the Speed Force,” the central plot was heavily related to the source of the speedsters’ abilities. Barry figures out that using the Spectre’s power to enter the already damaged extra-dimensional energy source became the cause of the Speed Force’s death. Since Cisco (Carlos Valdes) came back from his big trip where he was analyzing Earth-Prime post-Crisis, the former superhero becomes the first to discover Eobard’s return. During a moment together at Central City Citizen, Cisco tries to connect with Nash, who quickly makes it clear that something is wrong. As he locks them in the office, Cisco discovers that Nash is now actually Reverse-Flash. Prior to Cisco’s return, Eobard’s energy attacked Nash and took control of his body.

Eobard Thawne Reverse Flash Crisis on Infniite Earths Arrowverse

During a showdown, Cisco discovers that Eobard doesn’t have his super-speed anymore. While Eobard almost gets the upper hand, Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) manages to stun him with a taser. It turns out that being in Nash’s body prevents Reverse-Flash from accessing his abilities through the Negative Speed Force. Later on, Eobard gets locked up in the Pipeline as Barry comes to find out what he wants this time. But Reverse-Flash’s motives haven’t changed one bit, as Eobard reminds Barry that he simply wants to kill him and everyone that he loves. Despite not having his powers, Reverse-Flash assures Barry that he’ll get out and that his killing spree will start with the death of Nash.

Eobard continues by revealing that he knows that Barry’s speed will be gone “in a few short weeks,” while mocking the hero for relying on “a puny, pathetic force.” With the Mirror-arc being the main theme in the second half of season 6, viewers can now also expect another big confrontation between the two speedsters. It remains to be explained why the Crisis resulted in Eobard going from flesh and bone to being a spectral existence. As the team attempt to build Barry his own artificial Speed Force, time is now ticking before Reverse-Flash eventually gets out at some point in the remaining episodes of The Flash season 6.
