Jurassic World 3 Movie Title Revealed As Filming Officially Starts

Movies

Colin Trevorrow has confirmed the official title for Jurassic World 3Jurassic World: Dominion – as filming starts. Five years after he brought the Jurassic Park franchise back to life with Jurassic World, Trevorrow is returning at the helm for the third and final entry in his sequel trilogy. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles from the previous two Jurassic World movies opposite original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum in their iconic roles. They won’t be the only Jurassic Park veterans returning for what Pratt calls the Avengers: Endgame of Jurassic World sequels, either.

Plot details are being kept under-wraps for Jurassic World 3 right now, but it’s expected Trevorrow and his co-writer Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim Uprising) will pay off the ending to 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. That film concluded with the surviving dinosaurs from Isla Nublar being set loose upon human civilization and, as you would expect, wreaking havoc along the way. Trevorrow has already teased this new status quo in a short film titled Battle at Big Rock, which released last year. Now, he’s preparing for the next Jurassic movie, which finally has an officially title.

Trevorrow took to Twitter to reveal Jurassic World 3 is called Jurassic World: Dominion and has officially begun shooting. You can see his tweet (complete with a photo of the slate bearing the movie’s title), below. Interestingly, the Dominion logo and lettering are done in the style of the first Jurassic Park and not the blue-grey scheme of the previous Jurassic World films. This could be to emphasize the idea the movie is a conclusion to the larger Jurassic saga and not just the sequel trilogy.

The Dominion title seems like a pretty straightforward reference to the film’s story, which is all about humans battling dinosaurs for dominion over the earth. Of course, it won’t really be a full-blown war; there weren’t that many dinosaurs that survived the volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar and set free by the end of Fallen Kingdom, so humanity definitely has the upper hand. Even so, Jurassic World 3 has the potential to take the franchise global for the first time, unlike the contained settings featured in the last two movies (the Jurassic World park and Benjamin Lockwood’s estate). This could also explain how characters like Dr. Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler get roped back into the action, considering they haven’t set foot on a dinosaur-populated island since 2001’s Jurassic Park III.

Either way, it sets the stage for what could be a very exciting “science thriller” (as Trevorrow has described Dominion) that brings the six-film Jurassic Park saga to a satisfying close. The previous two Jurassic World movies earned a mixed reception and were criticized for relying too much on nostalgia for the first Jurassic Park, so there’s definitely a risk Jurassic World 3 will do the same thing (especially given how many Jurassic Park actors are coming back for the sequel). Still, Trevorrow earned top marks for his direction on Battle at Big Rock – even if he was guilty of copying The Lost World‘s biggest moments – and appears determined to send the franchise out with a bang, so here’s hoping he does just that.
