For the fans of the now-defunct Walking Dead comic book, you know how different the show is from the graphic novels. Certain things are kept out of the show that are in the book because let’s be honest, they are too graphic. Whereas other things, like the loss of Rick Grimes hand which played a huge part in the book, is nowhere to be seen on our television screens.
And that leads us to Andrew Lincoln. The now-departed star of The Walking Dead who played the titular character of Rick Grimes.
Apparently as far back as Season 4, the showrunner at the time Scott Gimple was working on an exit for Andrew Lincoln with the actor who originally intended to leave the series in season 8 back in 2017. It was at that time that Lincoln told Greg Nicotero of an ending for the character that Nicotero told him to keep quiet.
It kind of went like this:
Lincoln envisioned Rick and son Carl surrounded by walkers in a desert somewhere, and it’s there Rick is bitten on the arm.
He said:
“I’m dying, on my own. On my own, just waiting to die, And then I patch up, and a day passes … I don’t die. The final shot is, ‘Holy shit, maybe I’m the cure?’ The final shot of the whole thing, high shot, a herd of zombies coming. Rick gets up, follows the tracks to go see Carl, walking, the herd comes towards him — and they separate. He walks through. Boom!”
We all know now that Rick was presumed dead after he blew up a bridge to half a zombie horde and was injured in the process but rescued and flown to one of the three major human civilizations.
So Lincoln’s idea could still happen. Carl is dead but it might still be something to look for with his daughter Judith or RJ, the son he had with Michonne that was born months after Rick vanished.
The Walking Dead season 10 returns to AMC on February 23. Are you excited? Let us know down below!
