Yorgos Lanthimos in Talks to Direct Adaptation of Gothic Western Novel ‘The Hawkline Monster’

Horror

There was one point in time where Tim Burton was set to adapt Richard Brautigan’s 1974 novel The Hawkline Monster: A Gothic Western, and the late Hal Ashby had been attached to direct an adaptation before him. Alas, neither project came to fruition, with New Regency much more recently acquiring the rights to the novel earlier this year.

Providing an update, THR reports tonight that Yorgos Lanthimos (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Favourite), is now in talks to direct the adaptation for New Regency!

The site details, “The book tells of two unlikely hero gunslingers hired by a 15-year-old girl named Magic Child to kill the monster that lives in ice caves under the basement of a house inhabited by a young woman named Miss Hawkline. What follows is a unique adventure where there is more to Magic Child, Miss Hawkline and the house than meets the eye.”

Roy Lee (IT), Andrew Trapani and Steven Schneider are producing.
