Black Widow Trailer Reveals MCU Hero’s Russian Family

Movies

Marvel Studios releases the first Black Widow movie trailer, revealing Scarlett Johansson returning to her Marvel Cinematic Universe role. Johansson first joined the MCU in 2010’s Iron Man 2, playing S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff who poses as Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) new assistant. She goes on to become one of the original six team members of The Avengers superhero squad, working alongside Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) until S.H.I.E.L.D. is brought down. In this year’s culminating movie event, Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow sacrifices herself so that Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) may get the Soul Stone so the heroes can revive everyone who disappeared in the Blip.

However, despite Black Widow’s death in Avengers: Endgame, Johansson will reprise the role at least one more time, for the solo movie set to hit theaters in May 2020. Although Marvel Studios screened Black Widow footage at both San Diego Comic-Con and D23 over the summer, fans not able to attend those events haven’t gotten to see Natasha back in action. They were, however, treated to glimpses of Black Widow’s white costume, which surfaced from the show floor of D23. Now, fans can get a first look at the upcoming MCU movie with the official release of the Black Widow trailer.

The first trailer for Marvel’s Black Widow, which has dropped ahead of the Marvel’s upcoming panel at CCXP in Brazil this weekend, is all about taking a dive into the past of Natasha Romanoff. Her Avengers: Endgame death may mean she doesn’t have a true future, but there is clearly still a lot to be explored with regards to her life as a spy, which this trailer drops some intriguing hints about, with teases of her time in the Red Room and family.

Aside from Natasha, the first Black Widow movie trailer gives fans a good look at the other key players in action, including a full look at Harbour suited up as Red Guardian, Natasha going toe-to-toe with her sister Yelena Belova, a brief flashback to a younger looker Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt), and a few glimpses of the movie’s villain, Taskmaster.
