Mark and The Tiger bring a new sound out of Los Angeles. Offering a new vibe and a magical take on pop and beyond, we find out more about the artist who has an upcoming show at The legendary Whisky A Go-Go on January 3rd, 2020.

Hi Mark and The Tiger tell us about “Come to Mexico”.

Hi! Thanks for having me. “Come to Mexico” is a true story about a real friend of mine. She was an extremely powerful force in my life for an amount of time but then we were forced to go our separate ways. But we’re still so energetically connected! Every once in a while she’ll reach out to me after we’ve gone ages not speaking. She is the hardest person in the whole world to get a hold of. In the song I talk about a specific instance where she called me up after more than a year of not being in contact. She told me she was down in Mexico and had just broken up with her boyfriend and would I please fly down. That’s who she is! A total gypsy and wild woman and I love her. I didn’t go when she called me. But I always wonder what would have happened if I had.

How does the new song fit into your long term musical goals?

Man, what a poignant question! Every time I release a song, as much as I may love it, I only seem to be able to pay attention to the things I want to change. Sonically, I’m not sure if my overall sound is going to match with ‘Come to Mexico’ in the long run. But from a songwriting perspective, the song really represents who I am and what I want to share. The woman I wrote it about is a real person. This was a real snippet of my life. I want to continue writing from a very vulnerable and honest place and I want all of my music to be about that.

Any great moments in Mexico you want to share?

You know what’s funny? I’ve lived in LA for 9 years but I actually hadn’t even been down to Mexico until last year. My husband surprised me and his mom with a duel Birthday trip. She was Turing 60 and I was turning 30; so he took us to Puerto Vallarta. But my best trip was for a wedding in Cabo this past Spring. I don’t remember much of the night so you know it was a great time.

What do you see as your greatest musical asset?

I think I’m able to work really well with a lot of different types of people. I love to collaborate and when you’re making music that’s such an important thing! You can make beautiful things as a team that you can’t do by yourself. I’m also very meticulous with my words when I write songs. I think I’m a pretty good and thoughtful lyricist and that feeds the songs in a different way than say, a song that was written with the instrumental parts as the focus or starting point.

Favorite song of 2019 so far?  Yours?  And Not Yours?

Oh man this is tricky. If you ask me tomorrow I could easily remember something else but right now the only thing coming to my mind is “Release” which is one of the new singles that Grace Potter put out this Fall. She is a force of nature, one of my absolute musical inspirations! And the song is just so gorgeous!

If you could change one thing about Los Angeles what would it be and why?

More trains, less cars. Done.

2020 Plans and further down the road?

Hopefully just playing as many shows as I can. I’ll also be putting out a bunch of new singles! Keep your eyes and ears peeled.

How can our readers support your music on line and IRL?

If they could go and put me on all their Spotify playlists that would be amazing! I just want people to start hearing the tunes and learn what I’m all about. I’ll have some acoustic videos coming out soon that they can find on my youtube page. Just check out my website to stay updated! Or find me on Instagram!
