Award-winning filmmaker Carlen May-Mann is set to release her Sundance selected horror short The Rat on October 23, 2019, through Gunpowder & Sky’s Alter. Horror Freak News has obtained this exclusive trailer that you don’t want to miss.

The Rat was written and directed by Carlen May-Mann. The short horror film stars Isabel Shill (Orange Is the New Black)and Collin Kelly-Sordelet (Wildling). The Rat premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and went on to play the Maryland Film Festival, Overlook Film Festival, Palm Springs Shortfest, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, and many more.

The trailer reminds me of scenes from John Carpenter’s Halloween but with a different twist. Carlen May-Mann stated that she was inspired by “mainstream art-horror of the 1960s and 1970s – films like Rosemary’s Baby, Carrie, and The Exorcist.”

Be sure to check out the short film for free by following Alter on both Facebook and Youtube. Alter distributes three short movies or series each week to their millions of followers. Alter’s platform is excellent for emerging horror filmmakers that are looking for distribution for their content. In addition to online content Alter develops feature film through their Alter Studio projects – which are not bound to a particular platform or format.

Alter is Gunpowder & Sky’s horror brand. On a side note, Gunpowder & Sky gave us Lords of Chaos, which has the best gore scene ever in a non-horror film.

They start to fool around on an old mattress, but after Jim leaves to retrieve a condom, Renee begins to hear unsettling noises echoing through the house and realizes she’s not alone. Creeping downstairs, she is confronted with a terrifying situation, and must come to terms with the thing that, deep down, she’s most afraid of.
