90 Day Fiance The Other Way Recap: Torn

Reality TV

Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way teaches us the true power of love. It is so powerful that it will drive people to make some of the stupidest decisions. Each and every person on this cast has thrown caution and their sanity to the wind, just to have an international love story.

Sumit reveals his truth about what happened once he was taken from the apartment with Jenny Slatten. Deavan Clegg discovers more information about Jihoon Lee‘s past. Liam gives Aladin an ultimatum. Let’s dish on these messy lives!

Deavan, 22 (Salt Lake City, Utah) & Jihoon, 29 (South Korea)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Torn

Deavan gets the chance to meet Jihoon’s friends at a local bar in Korea. He is extremely nervous that his friends will reveal more secrets. Deavan gets tipsy after downing several shots of alcohol, while their company sips politely. I guess I would as well, if I discovered I left my entire life behind to chase after a man-child who is in debt and still lives with his parents. The liquid courage must be strong. She just flat out asks his friends why he is in debt. She discovers Jihoon was actually selling phones in China, not just to friends in Korea.

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Torn

Deavan is still worried about marrying Jihoon, given all of the lies she keeps uncovering. When she tries to express all of her concerns, Jihoon becomes frustrated with her constant worries. I guess he has a “don’t worry about money, be happy” type of mindset. Meanwhile, the rest of us actually live in reality. Nonetheless, they decide to get married in a private ceremony in a government building.

I think Deavan has just scratched the surface in relation to her new husband. Although I like Jihoon, I don’t think he is ready to have a wife and family. I couldn’t imagine caring for an infant, Drusilla and Jihoon at the same time. Whew, that is a frightening thought. Hopefully, he will grow up now that he is responsible for three other people.

Laura, 51 (Eustis, Florida) & Aladin, 29 (Qatar)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Torn

It’s the second night of Laura and Aladin’s wedding and things still aren’t going well. Laura is heartbroken her son would rather miss out on the festivities than support her. She is torn between her husband and her only child. She excuses Liam’s behavior with a case of diarrhea, when Aladin calls him a brat.

I actually felt sorry for Laura during her party. She is dressed in full traditional garb on a couch alone, pretending to have fun. I can see both Laura and Liam’s perspectives. I’m sure he is tired of seeing his mother hurt by men with ulterior motives. Whereas Laura only wants her son to be happy that she found love again.

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Torn

It’s the last day of the wedding and Laura encourages Aladin to speak with Liam. Aladin thinks it’s crazy that Liam would travel so far just to stay in the hotel. When Aladin confronts Liam, he insists he was sick and that is why he didn’t show up.

When pushed, Liam admits that he has some issues with the men his mother has chosen to date. Things go totally left when Aladin shares his plan to have a family. Liam goes ballistic. He threatens disown his mother if she dares to have another child. Liam isn’t willing to risk his mother’s health or any financial or emotional support that a new sibling could jeopardize. Okay, Liam you are coming off as a bit of a brat.

I think he has some valid concerns, but he just doesn’t know how to express them in a mature way. It may be time to just go to the wedding and eat, drink and be merry. Staying in the hotel and making demands isn’t going to change anything.

Corey, 31 (Mill A, Washington) & Evelin, 26 (Ecuador)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Torn

Corey has been in Washington with his family after the passing of her father for the last three weeks. He made the decision to return to Evelin in Ecuador.  Now that he only has 30 days on his visa, he hopes to convince her to marry him. She has been very supportive during his time of grieving.

But, naturally, he feels guilty for leaving his family when they need him. His mother assures him she will be fine and that he should live his life. The goodbye scene melted my heart. I could tell his mother was hurting, but she put her son’s happiness above her own needs. I hope Evelin is worth it. Personally, don’t think so, given what we all have witnessed. But Corey will have to discover that for himself. It’s seem like it’s going to take her practically killing him to leave her alone.

Corey arrives in Ecuador. And this time Evelin actually meets him at the airport. Evelin appears to be a lot more endearing towards her man. She even blocked her ex after their last explosive argument. Maybe the death of Corey’s father actually made her realize she should treat Corey better. I’m still giving her the side eye, but I am glad that she has made some changes. Corey is a nice guy and deserves to be with someone who truly loves him.

Jenny, 60 (Palm Springs, California) & Sumit, 30 (India)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Recap: Torn

Summit was held at his parent’s home for five days after they discovered he was cheating on his wife with Jenny. Apparently his family arranged an unwanted marriage, while he was dating Jenny. He is only allowed to leave to speak with one of his friends. Summit recounts how he was treated after revealing he was in love with someone besides his wife. Not only was he threatened, but no one could understand why he would choose Jenny, over his younger wife who can have children.

His friend is worried about Summit because he could be arrested if his in-laws create any claims against him, even if they are false. I am more worried about Jenny. She doesn’t realize how much danger she could be in if she remains in India, after Summit has dishonored his wife and family.

I know Jenny has given up everything, but it may be time to give up the fantasy, completely. Although he was forced into a marriage, he still lied and had her give up her life for nothing.  After that mob came to my apartment and I would have been on the first thing smoking out of India.
