Yes, while the Fast & Furious movies have gotten increasingly crazier with each entry, these still largely revolve the main characters getting into shenanigans in cars, trucks and all sorts of ground-based vehicles (and even a few airborne ones), but Daniel Radcliffe wants no part of that. While plugging his new movie, Guns Akimbo (which also stars Ready or Not’s Samara Weaving) at the Toronto International Film Festival, Radcliffe acknowledged that he’d done a lot of his own stunts on the Harry Potter movies, but most of the films he’s done since don’t lend themselves to stunts.
When Guns Akimbo director Jason Lei Howden joked about shaving Daniel Radcliffe’s head so he’d look like Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, and thus fit into the Fast & Furious world, the actor asked:
Daniel Radcliffe elaborated to MTV News that he does have a driver’s license, but he only uses it to drive around on sets. Otherwise, he doesn’t like to be behind the wheel and admitted he’s “bad at it.” Instead, Radcliffe joked about the Fast & Furious crew surely need someone in the operation to do their taxes or handle the administrative work, and he’s the perfect guy to play that behind-the-scenes character.
The unlikelihood that we’ll get an inside look at how Dominic Toretto and the gang handle their bookkeeping notwithstanding, it would be interesting to see Daniel Radcliffe take part in the Fast & Furious franchise. Even if he’s not eager to do anything car-related, there could be another way for him to be included in the proceedings. It’s too late for him to join Fast & Furious 9, as that movie is more than halfway through filming, but there’s one more main installment of the series on the way, not to mention a female-led spinoff in the works and a solid chance that Hobbs & Shaw could get a sequel.
For now, though, this is just a hypothetical casting, but if the pieces align in just the right order, maybe Daniel Radcliffe will indeed be approached to join the Fast & Furious franchise, be it for a major role or a cameo appearance. For now, in addition to keeping his cinematic career going with Guns Akimbo, Playmobil: The Movie and Escape from Pretoria, Radcliffe’s also keeping busy starring in the TBS comedy series Miracle Workers.
As far Fast & Furious 9 goes, no specific plot details have been revealed yet, but in addition to the main protagonists returning, we’ll also reunite with Jordan Brewster’s Mia Toretto, Charlize Theron’s Cipher (who’s rocking a new hairdo) and Helen Mirren’s Magdalene Shaw. The new cast members include John Cena, Michael Rooker, Finn Cole, Anna Sawai and Vinnie Bennett.
