Spotify Acquires Music Talent Marketplace SoundBetter

Music, News

Spotify has acquired the music talent marketplace SoundBetter, the company has announced. Founded in 2012 and described as “the de facto LinkedIn for music professionals,” SoundBetter allows for artists, engineers, and other audio professionals to buy and sell services such as recording, mixing, mastering, and more.

“SoundBetter offers the most comprehensive global marketplace for music and audio production professionals for hire in the world along with a member community spanning 176 countries and 14,000 cities worldwide,” SoundBetter co-founder/CEO Shachar Gilad said in a press release. “We are excited to benefit from Spotify’s global scale, resources, and vision to expand our network and drive more economic opportunities for artists of all levels.” The exact terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Back in February, Spotify acquired the podcasting companies Gimlet and Anchor. In July, the company shuttered the direct-upload beta program that allowed artists to get their music onto the platform without the need of an outside distributor.
