Guillermo del Toro Almost Made a Cameo Appearance in ‘IT: Chapter Two’

Horror

Several years before he took up residence in Derry, Andy Muschietti made his feature debut with the excellent Mama, an expansion of a scary short film that had caught the attention of Guillermo del Toro. As executive producer, del Toro was instrumental in making the 2013 movie happen, so you could say that it was del Toro who gave Muschietti his big break.

As revealed in a chat with Slash Film, Muschietti wanted to pay tribute to del Toro by offering him a cameo appearance in IT: Chapter Two, which *almost* happened as planned.

I wanted Guillermo in the movie,” Muschietti told the site. “We were this close. He was going to play the janitor that Ben runs into when he’s running away from Pennywise.”

“That scene, of course, would have been like five minutes longer if Guillermo was in it.”

Of course, nothing can ever top Wes Craven’s cameo as “Fred the janitor” in his own Scream, but it sure would’ve been fun to see del Toro share the screen with Pennywise!
