Warning: Contains Spoilers for Exceptional X-Men #12!
A brand-new X-Men recruit has just unleashed an incredible mutant power that could totally shake up the franchise and the entire Marvel Universe. A crossover with Ironheart adds a member to Kitty Pryde’s Exceptional X-Men team, but the new student’s powers are already too powerful to contain. While the newly-unlocked time travel powers are cool, they threaten major consequences for Earth-616.
Exceptional X-Men #12, written by Eve L. Ewing with art by Federica Mancin, reveals that Bronze’s friend from school is actually a mutant with pretty unique and underrated powers. However, they’re already causing trouble for the team.
Reginald James McNair III, or Reggie, officially has the power to create space-time portals. He just doesn’t know how to control them yet.
Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost’s X-Men Team Introduce an Exceptionally Powerful New Mutant

While Reggie’s space-time portal powers could make him one of the X-Men’s most powerful mutants with proper training, they also have the power to destroy the Marvel Universe as fans know it. The first public use of his mutation has already sent Kitty Pryde through time, and only her Exceptional X-Men students can attempt to rescue her without disrupting history.
Kitty and Emma Frost welcomed Bronze, Axo, and Melee as new mutant students in the beginning of Exceptional X-Men, and it seems Reggie could officially be their fourth student on the team. Emma is already trying to teach Reggie how to properly control his powers, and she’ll coach him through the other students’ trip back in time to retrieve Kitty.
Reggie has been in the series as a civilian since the fourth issue, as Bronze’s crush from school, but his newly-revealed powers could see him become one of the X-Men’s omega-level mutants with enough time and practice. Traveling through space and time can give the X-Men a huge advantage in any of their upcoming battles, or it could cause catastrophe.
Reggie’s Mutant Status Could Be a Game-Changer for the Entire X-Men Franchise
From a Superhero Romance to the Age of Revelation
Exceptional X-Men’s Reggie reveal could make him a seriously important figure in the franchise, with potential for both romance and action-packed adventure. Bronze and Reggie could eventually blossom into one of the X-Men’s greatest comic couples. Plus, with the twisted future of Age of Revelation coming up, Reggie’s ability to aid with time travel could help save the Earth-616 timeline.
While Reggie’s purple glowing space-time portals make him a truly fantastical addition to the team, Emma Frost will have to teach him how to use them properly before they end in a history-shattering disaster. The X-Men’s newest mutant has the potential to achieve some of the franchise’s strongest powers ever, but they come with serious stakes for the Exceptional X-Men.
