Survive a Cult-Infested Remote Island With Grotesque Body Horrors in ‘Bleak Haven’ [Trailer]

Horror

If you enjoyed The Ritual (the David Bruckner one, not the David Midell film), developer Artur Łączkowski and Hitori De Productions have a treat for you with their recently-announced Survival Horror title, Bleak Haven. Combining the creatures from the 2017 film with a touch of Resident Evil, Bleak Haven is currently in development for PC via Steam, and is described as a story-driven, cinematic single-player experience.

We also get a glimpse of the gameplay in a new trailer, courtesy of IGN.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Bleak Haven puts you in the shoes of a man named Tyler, who is searching for his missing brother. After receiving the location of his brother’s phone, Tyler heads to a remote, fog-covered island, which just so happens to be home to abandoned villages, cults, silence, and things best left forgotten.

As one would expect, you’ll be facing off against grotesque, humanoid body horrors with whatever you can get your hands on for defence. That of course includes guns, but they’re in short supply. Combat is described as “fast, physical, and lethal,” with the game featuring finishing moves that allow you to execute enemies when caught off guard or weakened.

Another Survival Horror stalwart are the environmental puzzles, along with documents left behind by the cult and other survivors to fill in the gaps in the story and lore.
