All Sheryl Crow wants to do is focus on family.

In fact, the “If It Makes You Happy” singer gave rare insight on her personal life by explaining that she came to that revelation shortly after her 2006 breakup with Lance Armstrong, as well as her cancer diagnosis and relocation from Hollywood to Nashville during the early aughts.

“We all have those moments in our life where we have to pivot,” Sheryl told Variety in an interview published April 30. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, and I moved here in 2007.”

Referring to Lance’s three children with his first wife Kristin Richard, the 63-year-old continued, “I think having come out of a relationship where I thought I was gonna be married and was close to the kids that were gonna be my stepkids, then got diagnosed—all three of those things made me reassess.”

“I just looked at it and thought, ’I want to put down roots; I want to have a family,’” she said of settling in the Tennessee capital. “My sisters live here, and my family all lived within three hours, and I just decided to start phase two.”
