An angst-filled track about a tortured silence in a long term relationship that encapsulates the problem with modern relationships ….We don’t know how to talk to each other about what’s really important…. at all. Do all great loves end up the same? I dare you to find a single relationship on the planet that can’t identify with the sentiment of “Pat Wants to Know” at one time or another.
“Pat Wants to Know” is the second single released off what pop recording artist and film score composer Edelman admits is an album very personal to him which he produced and is entitled “Waltzing On A High Wire.” The album is flawlessly sonic and has already won Randy the title of Record Producer of the Year from BroadwayWorld 2025 and Album of the Year at the New England Music Hall of Fame.
Edelman employs the vibrant feel of the heartbeat of rock n’ roll from the doo-wop era and early 60’s musically encompassing that nostalgic flair when life seemed simpler. However, his lyrical content set in somewhat of a narrative style unleashes some of the most brilliant and meaningful words and poetries, and they aren’t simple but rather heartfelt.

“Now trees do tumble
And flames can fly
Fears won’t shake him
Though Pat tries and tries
And so two souls drift far
Like two distant stars
And that distance grows and grows”
The song evokes a strong emotional response, especially the first couple of times you hear it. It shocks you into a sorrow that causes the hairs on the back of your neck to prickle and makes you aware that love is a process of a life-long learning lesson. I don’t know what the composer intended when he wrote the song but for his sake I hope it wasn’t about the girl from those rocky beaches by the bay “And tell me when will our eyes meet, when can I touch you….When will this strong yearning end…And when will I hold you again.” Whatever his intentions “Pat Wants to Know” is a classic Randy Edelman compelling ballad.
Join Randy on Friday June 6, 2025 for a solo performance at Lincoln Center and on Friday December 19, 2025 for his return to Carnegie Hall.
