Matthieu Blazy selected new creative director of Chanel

Chanel recently announced appointing Franco-Belgian designer Matthieu Blazy as its new artistic director. His predecessor Virginie Viard quit the house earlier this year.

Born and brought up in Paris, the 40-year-old designer has worked with Raf Simons, Maison Margiela and Cline under Phoebe Philo. His last role was creative director at Bottega Veneta.

Chanel recently announced appointing Franco-Belgian designer Matthieu Blazy as its new artistic director.
His predecessor Virginie Viard quit the house earlier this year.
Blazy will oversee all of fashion, couture and accessories for Chanel, overseeing ten collections a year.
He will officially join the team in April 2025 and make his runway debut in October during Paris Fashion Week.

In his new role, Blazy will oversee all of fashion, couture and accessories for the fashion house, overseeing ten collections a year. He will officially join the team in April next year and make his runway debut in October as part of the spring/summer 2026 presentations during Paris Fashion Week.

Until then, Chanel’s studio design team will continue to work on the upcoming couture collections in January and June, as well as the fall 2025 collection in March, according to media reports from Europe.

He is the fourth designer in Chanel’s over 100-year history to lead the house, following Karl Lagerfeld, Viard and founder Gabrielle Coco Chanel.
