The 5 Levels Of Style (Which Style Of Man Are You?)

Where do you stand on the style spectrum?

From ‘Clueless’ to ‘Style God’ and everything in between, each level has its own unique characteristics. It’s important to know which level you belong to so that you can work on improving your style.

If you’re not sure where you stand, don’t worry! In today’s article, I’ll help you identify which level of style you embody and how to boost yourself to the top of the food chain.

However, take this with a grain of salt and a dash of humor. 🙂

Style Level #1 – Clueless

  • Do you wear sweat pants with a button-down shirt?
  • Are your shoes unpolished and dirty?
  • Do you just wear what your wife picks out for you in the morning?

Sorry to say it, my friend – but that means you’re clueless.

Being classed as clueless isn’t the end of the world! After all – RMRS is here to help guys like you find their feet in the world of men’s style. By clicking on this article and reading up until now, you’ve taken the first big step in improving the way you look and how others perceive you.

So how do you boost yourself from being a clueless man when it comes to style?

It’s simple – start paying attention to the way you look. That means taking an extra five minutes in the morning to style your hair, picking out clothes that actually fit you well, and making sure your shoes are always clean and polished.

It sounds like a lot of work, but trust me – it’s worth it. Just by making these small changes and being AWARE of the way your personal style affects how you look to others is a big step in becoming a style-confident man.

Level #2 – Style Apprentice

  • Do you know the difference between a suit and a tuxedo?
  • Are you able to match the style of your pants and shirt to create a good-looking outfit?
  • Have you thrown away your tattered sweatpants and purchased something more flattering and slim-cut?

If the answer’s yes, then congratulations! You’ve taken on the role of ‘style apprentice’.

But what does this mean? In short, you’re a guy who picks out his own clothes without the help of his wife and looks good 90% of the time. You know the basics of style but need help taking your look to the next level.

The first thing you need to do is expand your wardrobe.

That doesn’t mean going out and buying a bunch of new clothes – it means understanding what items work well together and how you can mix and match them to create different looks.

As a style apprentice, your first step in progressing to the next style of man is to create a solid capsule wardrobe. In short, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few key clothing items that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of different looks.

Creating a capsule wardrobe is simple – start with the basics like a good pair of jeans, chinos, a blazer, and a couple of button-down shirts. Once you have those key pieces, you can start expanding your wardrobe by adding in new colors, patterns, and textures.

The important thing to remember is that quality is better than quantity when it comes to clothes.

It’s better to have a few well-made pieces that you can wear over and over again than a closet full of cheap clothes that fall apart after a few washes.

Level #3 – Style Graduate

  • Do you have a well-balanced wardrobe full of timeless, interchangeable clothing items?
  • Are you able to tell an Oxford shoe from a Derby shoe?
  • Do you understand the color wheel, and can you balance your outfit using a combination of complementary colors and fits?

Sounds like you’re a Style Graduate – the sort of guy who dresses well and has mastered the basics of men’s style.

For most of my readers, this is where you’ll comfortably sit. You know the basics of how to dress well, and you’ve read enough of my articles to be considered above average when it comes to your knowledge of men’s clothing.

However, you’ve still got a ways to go. The style graduate is the sort of guy who looks good most of the time but still makes style mistakes on occasion.

The key to progressing to the next style of man is understanding that style is a journey, not a destination. There’s always room for improvement, and there are always new things to learn.

One way to continue improving your style is by reading style blogs (like this one!) and books, watching YouTube videos, and following style icons on social media. The more you expose yourself to style, the better your understanding of it will become.

In addition to continuing your education, it’s also important to start experimenting with your personal style. Try out classic style items, and don’t be afraid to take risks. The goal is to find what works for YOU – not what looks good on someone else.

So go out there and experiment! Try new things and have fun with your style. Who knows – you might just surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.

Level #4 – Style Confident

Then well done – you’re obviously a Style Confident kind of guy!

Being style confident means that you’ve not only mastered the basics of style but you’ve also developed your own personal style. You know what looks good on you, and you’re not afraid to experiment with new trends.

In addition to having a strong understanding of style, the style-confident man is also comfortable giving fashion advice to others. He’s the sort of guy who friends and family come to when they need help picking out an outfit for a special occasion.

If you want to progress to the next level, there are two things you need to work on: first, continue refining your personal style; and second, start sharing your knowledge with others.

The best way to refine your personal style is by experimenting with new looks and trends. Read up on Alan Flusser’s Dressing The Man, and make sure you check out my free eBook collection that’ll give you all the style advice a man could need.

You haven’t got much more to learn, but it’s important to keep your style knowledge up-to-date. After all, style is always evolving; what looks good on you today might not look great in 10 years’ time as you get older!

The second thing you need to do is start sharing your style knowledge with others. The best way to do this is by writing blog posts (like this one!), making YouTube videos, or even just talking to people in person.

Helping others dress better will not only make them look good, but it’ll also make you feel good too.

So go out there and start sharing your style expertise with the world! Who knows – you might just inspire someone else to become a style icon.

Level #5 – Style God

  • Do you own more suits than your local Suits Direct?
  • Are you the best-dressed man in any room you enter?
  • Does David Beckham phone you up for style advice before a big event?

All hail the Style God – you have transcended this earthly realm and now exist in a state of godlike style. People will talk about your impact on men’s style for decades to come.

There’s not much to say about the Style God that hasn’t already been said. You are style personified, and there is literally nothing you can’t pull off.

From a casual tracksuit to three-piece tailoring, you make it all look effortless. People aspire to be like you, and women swoon at your feet.

You don’t need style advice – but if I were to give you one piece of advice, it would be this: stay humble.

With great style comes great responsibility, so use your powers for good! Help others improve their style and share your knowledge with the world.
