DreadXP Unveils New Indie Horror Titles ‘Amanda the Adventurer’ and ‘[I] doesn’t exist’ [Trailer]

DreadXP has announced some treats of their own for Halloween at the indie gaming conference The MIX Next 2022. The developer has revealed they’ve acquired two new titles for distribution in MANGLEDmaw Games‘ found footage horror game Amanda the Adventurer, and the text-based [I] doesn’t exist by LUAL Games.

“We’re thrilled to add Amanda the Adventurer and [I] doesn’t exist to our family of remarkable indie horror titles,” said Ted Hentschke, Head of Productions at DreadXP. “One of our goals is to help support and showcase smaller developers, using our resources to give their titles the attention they deserve. There are many outrageously creative and inspired developers out there, and all they need is a chance to show the gaming world their chops.”

This all comes after DreadXP announced last month that they were working on a video game adaptation of Creepshow with The Mortuary Assistant creators DarkStone Digital.

In Amanda the Adventurer, players embark on what at first appears to be a wholesome, friendship-filled journey. The adventure starts with the seemingly mundane task of digging through an attic, until players come across a box full of VHS tapes. Watching through them, it’s discovered that they contain episodes of a long-lost children’s show starring the eponymous Amanda the Adventurer and her cowardly yet loyal sidekick, Woolie the Sheep. At first glance, the videos seem innocently childish. However, the longer the videos are watched, the more a creeping, sickening feeling emerges that something in the tapes is watching back.

Described as a one-of-a-kind combination of trance-like visuals and text-based narrative design, [I] doesn’t exist combines 2D and 3D perspective through optical illusion, giving players a trippy, dreamlike experience while a modern “Natural Language Processing” technology lets players naturally type out answers to in-game prompts. You’ll solve puzzles, talk to a cute mushroom, and give commands to the in-game avatar — until the façade starts showing its cracks.

Players don’t have to wait to adventure for long, as both Amanda the Adventurer and [I] doesn’t exist will release in 2023 on PC.
