Heartstopper fans get ready – filming for season two of the beloved LGBTQ+ series is underway, and there are new characters to fall in love with.

The hit teen drama – based on the series of the same name by Alice Oseman – captured the hearts of fans across the globe for its amazing LGBTQ+ representation, which is helping an entire generation of queer youth feel seen through the media they consume

Netflix quickly renewed Heartstopper for a second and third season after the success of the first season. Fans have patiently waited for news about when their favourite characters would reappear on screens.

Netflix announced Thursday (22 September) that all lead cast members are returning for the second season including Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Tobie Donovan, Sebastian Croft, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Rhea Norward and Jenny Walser.

The streaming service also released a sweet video for fans, showing the Heartstopper stars reuniting on set. The cast is seen waving at the camera and greeting fans as they begin production for the upcoming season.

In other clips, the group smile happily as they embrace each other on set as well as introduce fans to some new cast members.

They are seen in the video sitting in a circle in the school’s gym going over lines as they prepare for future episodes, which will no doubt be amazing.

Needless to say, Heartstopper fans on social media were over the moon to get an update on season two.

The clip also introduced new Heartstopper cast members with Jack Barton set to play David Nelson, who is the older brother of Nick (Connor). David is not happy about Nick and Charlie’s relationship.

Connor previously discussed how he was eager to explore Nick’s relationships with his family, including his homophobic older brother.

Leila Khan has been cast as Higgs student Sahar Zahid, who is a classmate of Elle (Finney). Bradley Riches will play James McEwan, a student at Truham where Nick and Charlie attend with their friends Tao (Gao) and Isaac (Donovan).

British theatre star Nima Taleghan will be playing Truman teacher Mr Farouk, a new Truman teacher. Oseman described how Farouk has an “interesting friendship” with fellow teacher Mr Ajayi (Fisayo Akinade) which “eventually becomes something more”.
