Love may be blind – but this reality couple evidently struggled to find their way to a bright future together sans camera crew.
On Sunday, word got out that the last marriage standing from Season 2 of Netflix’s “Love Is Blind” is no more, with Danielle Ruhl having filed for divorce from Nick Thompson on Aug. 15, according to documents exclusively obtained by TMZ.
The news arrived on the heels of a separate update on the only other couple who made it through their wedding by the second season finale, Iyanna McNeely and Jarrette Jones: The duo announced in a joint statement posted to Instagram on Aug. 17 that they, too, will be moving forward with divorce proceedings.
Perhaps it was this summer’s scorching rays that shed some harsh light on more deep-seated issues with the relationships – which began with isolation-pod-mediated meet-cutes on the show between these fleetingly triumphant reality dating-show contenders.
As Ruhl told Page Six back in March, finding “structure” around her partnership with Thompson “after being throw back into reality” had proved challenging.
The couple even alluded to their attempts at “duplicating” the circumstances around which they met.
“It led to a lot of traveling. It led to spending a lot of time with friends and family, and actually scheduling that,” Thompson said at the time. “We made sure we kept on a little bit of a routine, so that we could continue to build on the foundation that we had.”
Even so, the pair looked to be going strong over the past few months, with the most recent social media-shared photos of them together — showing the now-ex-couple seemingly having a blast at Lollapalooza – posted to Ruhl’s Instagram on Aug. 1.
And, as recently as July, Ruhl was dishing on her intentions for she and Thompson to renew their vows in the near future. “At either our two — or three-year — anniversary, we really wanna redo a reception to make sure all of our families can be there,” she told Us Weekly last month. “I’ve always dreamt of my dream wedding and wedding planning and a bachelorette party. And so we’re redoing all of that … when we have the time.”
Ruhl already seems to be on the up-and-up, though, having shared stories to her Instagram late last week depicting her hanging out with female castmates from the show’s second season — with one snap showing the four ladies all beaming while standing on an outdoor balcony.
