Neve Campbell Will Lead the Cast of David E. Kelley’s New Mystery Series “Avalon” for ABC

Horror

Up next from Netflix and Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass”) is “The Midnight Club,” a series adaptation of Christopher Pike‘s 1994 novel that will also adapt other Pike stories. “The Midnight Club” is set to premiere on October 7, and a preview piece that just ran on Vanity Fair this morning is loaded with new insights – and new images.

For starters, you may be wondering which OTHER Christopher Pike stories are going to find their way into Netflix’s “The Midnight Club,” and Vanity Fair has spilled the beans.

The website reports, “Among the other Pike novels that will featured are Witch (1990), about a girl with mystical abilities who tries to prevent her catastrophic visions from coming true; Gimme A Kiss (1988), in which a bullied student fakes her own death as part of a twisted revenge scheme; The Wicked Heart (1993), which follows the trail of a high-school serial killer whose preferred weapon is a hammer; and Road to Nowhere (2011), in which a heartbroken young woman running away from her life picks up two eerie hitchhikers.”

In other words, while the series adapts “The Midnight Club” novel itself, the stories that the terminally ill teens tell one another each night will be plucked from other Christopher Pike tales. This way we’re getting several Pike adaptations in one, which is much the same approach that Flanagan took to adapting Henry James’s work in “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”

Learn more about “The Midnight Club” over on Vanity Fair now.

Flanagan is adapting Pike’s tales alongside Leah Fong (“Once Upon a Time”), and Flanagan directed some of the episodes. But he’s not the only director for the new series.

The full lineup of directors for Netflix’s “Midnight Club” also includes…

  • Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour (Black Box)
  • Axelle Carolyn (“Bly Manor,” “Creepshow”)
  • Viet Nguyen (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”)
  • Morgan Beggs (“Once Upon a Time”)
  • Michael Fimognari (To All the Boys: Always and Forever)

“At a manor with a mysterious history, the 8 members of the Midnight Club meet each night at midnight to tell sinister stories – and to look for signs of the supernatural from the beyond.”

The cast includes for Mike Flanagan’s series includes Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, William Chris Sumpter, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, with Zach Gilford and Heather Langenkamp.
