A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Hüsker Dü and UltraBomb bassist Greg Norton cover cancer treatment, as Consequence of Sound points out. According to a post on his Facebook account, Norton was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the beginning of June. The GoFundMe page was set up by friends of the musician, who are hoping to reach a goal of $30,000.

“We can’t imagine the stress and anxiety he and his family must be going through,” organizers wrote on Norton’s GoFundMe. “One thing that’s for sure, though, is that the cost of treatment in the United States is eyewatering. We want to help alleviate some of that pressure, so we’ve decided to set up a GoFundMe account to collect money for Greg to put towards his treatment.” Find the full statement below.

Norton briefly discussed his diagnosis in his original Facebook post. “My doctors at the Mayo Clinic believe I have excellent odds,” he wrote at the time. “But we need to get in right away and move forward with treatment and surgery.”

Norton also broke the news that previously scheduled UltraBomb tour dates in England and Scotland would be canceled. “We will also be pushing our fall tour in the states back a bit to allow me time to recover and return in full force,” Norton wrote. He also urged “all of my brothers out there” to “go get tested” for prostate cancer. “It could be a life changer!”

Back in 2017, Hüsker Dü issued a massive box set that featured 47 previously unreleased tracks. The 69-song collection—titled Savage Young Dü—was remastered from board tapes, demos, and session masters. Later that year, Hüsker Dü’s drummer and co-leader Grant Hart died of cancer at age 56.

Unfortunately, our beloved friend Greg Norton, bass player for the legendary Hüsker Dü and UltraBomb, has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

We can’t imagine the stress and anxiety he and his family must be going through. One thing that’s for sure, though, is that the cost of treatment in the United States is eyewatering. We want to help alleviate some of that pressure, so we’ve decided to set up a GoFundMe account to collect money for Greg to put towards his treatment.

Please help us by donating what you can. Let’s get Greg treated and well, back on his feet and rocking out again in no time!
