This Mother’s Day must have been a very special one for Denise Richards. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star proved to be a stricter parent than we may have guessed during her time on the show. She shares daughter Sami Sheen, 18, and Lola Sheen, 16, with ex-husband Charlie Sheen. Denise also has daughter Eloise Richards, 11, who she adopted in 2011. And some of that strictness can come with hardship, especially with teenagers.
After Sami posted a Tik Tok about being “trapped in an abusive household,” an upset Denise revealed that the two were not in a good place. Denise stated on Jeff Lewis’ Sirius XM show, “Honestly, I have a strained relationship with her. It’s very difficult. I know we’ll get back to where we were eventually but right now, it is strained.” Sami went to live with Charlie and Denise explained, “Obviously I would love for her to live with me. She lived with me all these years. But I think it’s very difficult raising teenagers now and especially in Los Angeles when there’s access to everything. We didn’t grow up with Postmates and Uber where you have everything that you want.” She added, “There are certain rules and I enforce them. And [at Charlie’s], there’s different rules at that house and that’s okay.”
Now Page Six is reporting that the estranged mother and daughter reunited for Mother’s Day this year. Sami posted four selfies with Denise on Instagram, outside of Giorgio Baldi Restaurant in Santa Monica, California. She captioned the photo, “happy mother’s day!! i love u so much mom. u have no idea how grateful i am to have u in my life.” She added a heart, flowers and champagne glass emoji. It’s not clear if the photos were actually taken on Mother’s Day or just shared for the holiday.
Last month, Denise hinted that the two were in a better place when she posted to Instagram for Sami’s 18th birthday. She shared a sweet pic of Sami and added lengthy caption to express her love. Denise wrote, “In a blink of an eye you’re 18…. !!!! Happy Birthday my beautiful Sami. I love you so much. Privately many more words to share with you. I love you unconditionally and I am very blessed & grateful to be your mom. And Nana is looking down celebrating with you. I love you my sweet Sami. Happy 18th Birthday!”
What a heartwarming message. I hope Denise and Sami continue to mend their relationship and come to a good place.
