A new Lego Star Wars game appears to give Finn and Poe Dameron the happy queer ending fans have longed for.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has seemingly confirmed the ‘FinnPoe’ ship – a romance between John Boyega’s stormtrooper-turned-rebel character Finn and X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac.

Although the duo had obvious sexual tension in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, their relationship never went further than friendship.

Many fans – and the films’ cast – called for the relationship to progress to a more romantic narrative, but later films went out of their way to ensure both men had female love interests.

However, it seems that the developers of The Skywalker Saga, released on Monday (5 April), have decided to give the people what they want.

Gaming outlet Kotaku reported that an intro video shows a loop of characters.

The first loop sees Finn jumping into the arms of Rose, his previous love interest, but as soon as Poe appears he immediately springs away from her.

Then, with a knowing eyebrow raise, Poe puts his arm around Finn. The scene ends with Poe defending his “friend” as Captain Phasma attempts to place a stormtrooper helmet on his head, before cuddling up again.

John Boyega and Oscar Isaac are bound to be pleased by this development as both actors have previously expressed support for their characters to have a romantic relationship.

Speaking to Variety in 2019, Isaac said: “Personally, I kind of hoped and wished that maybe that would’ve been taken further in the other films, but I don’t have control.

“It seemed like a natural progression, but sadly enough it’s a time when people are too afraid, I think, of… I don’t know what.”

Buzzfeed reported that when a teenaged fan named Maddie showed Boyega her sign which read “FINNPOE IS ENDGAME” back in 2018, the British actor “chuckled” and said: “Nice.”

The star then went on to write on the sign: “Fully endorsed.”
