Drag Race UK vs The World star Mo Heart has spoken out against the use of conversion therapy as she urged others to avoid the dehumanising practice.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race queen was seen opening up to fellow performers Blu Hydrangea and Janey Jacké in the semi-final of the hit BBC Three series as they discussed their struggles to be accepted in their hometowns.

Mo explained that she had been raised in a deeply religious family, with her mother being a fourth-generation minister.

The “SUKM” hitmaker then revealed that she had been heavily involved in the church and even worked in “full-time ministry” before she came out.

“I was always the odd man out,” Mo began. “I didn’t fit in because I was queer and effeminate. And I didn’t fit in because I grew up in church.”

The 35-year-old recalled how members of the church had tried to “rebuke the homosexuality” as she continued: “Their end goal was straightness. You just grow up just feeling condemned like, ‘What’s wrong with me?’”

Mo then revealed she went through so-called conversion therapy while attending university, with the hope of changing her sexuality.

During the conversion therapy, Mo was told that being gay was a “parenting issue” as they claimed homosexuality was due to the fact “you have an absent father or an overbearing mother”.

“It was trash… it’s just shame-based. It’s just shaming,” she told her fellow Drag Race darlings.

The US queen then addressed viewers as she stated: “For those who feel like they need to go through conversion therapy, Imma tell you that you don’t. Don’t waste your time or your money. You are enough.

“There is not one part of you that is broken, don’t buy into the hype that there’s something wrong with you. Lies, lies, lies. There’s nothing wrong with you.”

Mo revealed she is still religious as she stated that the “Holy Spirit” made her “fabulous”.

Viewers were moved by the star’s honest conversation about the experience as many praised Mo on social media.

One fan commented: “Beautiful and wise words on conversion therapy from Mo Heart. Loved hearing their story in tonight’s episode of Drag Race.”

“This made me tear up for anyone going through this – and it also made me love Mo Heart even more. She speaks the truth,” another added.

Indeed, the artist formerly known as Monique Heart previous told PinkNews that she chose to take part in Drag Race UK vs The World so she could show the world you can be both sickening and spiritual.
