Everything We Know About Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s New Starters

Movies

The Pokémon Company officially announced Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on Pokémon Day in 2022, revealing the game’s starter Pokémon in the process: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Very little has been revealed about the games and only Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s three starter Pokémon have been announced. The designs of these Pokémon have already received a positive reception from the fanbase and many are eagerly awaiting the chance to take them out into the world on a new Pokémon journey.

While The Pokémon Company might not have revealed a lot of official information about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, there are some details that fans have been able to work out for themselves. All of the information about the game suggests that its region is based on Spain, making it the third Pokémon region based on a European country. There seems to be some connection to fruit in the game, as there are hints that the scarlet name refers to oranges and the violet to grapes.

The trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet did reveal in-game footage, but it only showed Pokémon that had been introduced in previous games, like Pikachu. As it stands, only the artwork for the starter Pokémon has been revealed. But the official Pokémon website has been more forthcoming with information about them.

Sprigatito Is The Grass-Type Cat Starter In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Sprigatito Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Sprigatito is the Grass-type starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It’s a green cat-like Pokémon, with leaf patterns running throughout its fur. Its official designation is Grass Cat Pokémon, its height is 1’4, its weight is 9 lbs, and its Ability is Overgrow. The Overgrow Ability increases the Pokémon’s Attack or Special Attack by 50% when using a Grass-type move.

The official description of Sprigatito is “The capricious, attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon“. The Sprigatito name is a combination of sprig (a twig from a bush or tree), and the Spanish word for kitten. This isn’t the first time that a cat has been used as the basis for a starter Pokémon, as Litten in Sun and Moon was the Fire-type starter of its generation.

Fuecoco Is The Fire-Type Crocodile Starter In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Fuecoco Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Fuecoco is the Fire-type starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It’s a red crocodile with yellow squares on its body, two yellow tufts of hair, two black toes, and white fans. Its official designation is the Fire Croc Pokémon, its height is 1’4, it weighs 21.6 lbs, and its Ability is Blaze. The Blaze Ability increases the Pokémon’s Attack or Special Attack by 50% when using a Fire-type move.

The official description for Fuecoco is “The laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that does things at its own pace.” The Fuecoco name is a combination of the Spanish words for fire and crocodile. This isn’t the first time that a crocodile/alligator animal has been used as a starter Pokémon, as Totodile in Pokémon Gold and Silver was a Water-type starter that had a similar concept.

Quaxly Is Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Water-Type Duck Starter

Quaxly Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Quaxly is the Water-type starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It’s a blue and white duck which either has a fantastic head of hair or a little cap. Its official designation is the Duckling Pokémon, its height is 1’8, its weight is 13.4 lbs, and its Ability is Torrent. The Torrent Ability increases the Pokémon’s Attack or Special Attack by 50% when using a Water-type move.

The official description of Quaxly is “The earnest and tidy Duckling Pokémon.” Quaxly’s name is a play on the word quack. There are a number of duck-inspired Pokémon in the Pokémon series, dating back to Psyduck and Golduck in Pokémon Red and Blue, but this is the first time there has ever been a duck-inspired starter Pokémon. There have also been several bird starter Pokémon, including Torchi, Piplup, and Rowlet. There’s still a lot of information that fans have yet to learn about the staters in the new Pokémon games, but they won’t have to wait for long, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are launching in 2022.
