Teddi Mellencamp Accuses Heather Dubrow Of “Self-Producing” On Real Housewives Of Orange County

Reality TV

Heather Dubrow’s return to Real Housewives of Orange County has come with mixed reviews. She was brought back under the guise of reviving a failing franchise. But as we are seeing, even Heather has limits to her appeal. Despite a strong first few episodes, the season has continued to putter on, mostly focusing on how much everyone seems to hate Noella Bergener.

But one shining light on this season was Heather’s interactions with her kids. We previously learned that daughter Max Dubrow came out as bisexual. Now this season, Heather’s other daughter, Kat Dubrow, came out as a lesbian. Heather has filmed a few scenes with her, showing nothing but support and love. But not everyone agrees with her approach.

As reported by Reality Blurb, ex-housewives Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave and Tamra Judge discussed it on their podcast, Two Ts In A Pod. Teddi began with her feelings on Heather in general.

She griped, “I need her to stop self-producing.” Tamra concurred, “I think the problem is she’s an actress at heart and it’s kind of hard for her in front of a camera to not self-produce.” Teddi then responded, “It’s hard for [me] as a viewer to watch her thinking it’s authentic… It’s like stop — just be yourself. Stop.”

While I tend to never agree with Teddi, she does have a point. Fans on social media ripped Heather for what seemed like a well-rehearsed speech threatening Shannon Beador. She menacingly told Shannon, “If you ever come after me or my family ever again, you are going to lose a lot more than just my friendship. This will cost a lot. And I’m not saying this as a threat. I’m saying this as a promise.” Seems a tad dramatic, even for a show centered around often needless drama.

Teddi and Tamra then moved on to how Heather is handling Kat’s coming out. Said Teddi, “For it to come out on People magazine is a little bit tricky.” Tamra confessed, “It’s great that Heather is supportive,” but continued, “I would be a little bit hesitant about talking about my minor child’s sexuality and that’s just me. Like I’m super protective of things like that. I don’t know, one daughter came out as bisexual and another daughter has come out as a lesbian.” Tamra added, “I just don’t know that I would make that my storyline.”

Tamra, who knows a thing or two about having your children as a storyline on RHOC, said “the public can be mean.” Especially when it comes to topics like the LGBTQ+ community. Tamra also noted the bullying Kat mentioned she received online. Tamra wondered, “If she’s getting that kind of hate hurting her at that level now, coming out and it being on national TV… can your child handle that? Because 15 is a fragile age.”

Tamra insisted she “just worries a little bit” about Kat. She concluded, “I don’t want those kids to have to go through more than they need to. But good for Heather for supporting and being there for her kids.”
