A furious Marjorie Taylor Greene has slammed “pathetic” Congress staffers for allegedly vandalising her transphobic office sign.
Amid her campaign to tear down the Equality Act at all costs, the devout QAnon follower and Georgia congresswoman hung up the sign outside her House of Representatives office.
It read: “There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE. ‘Trust The Science!’”
The sign was a cheap potshot flung against congresswoman Marie Newman, Greene’s neighbour in the House who has a trans child. The pair have been in a months-long tit-for-tat over their opposing view on trans Americans.
But nearly a year since putting up the offensive sign, and it seems that people walking past Greene’s office aren’t big fans of the lawmaker’s barbed beliefs.
Having faced suspensions on both Facebook and Twitter for spewing misinformation around the COVID-19 vaccine, Greene has found a new home on social media service Telegram.
In recent weeks, the Republican firebrand has raged after the sign was repeatedly defaced and even, at one point, removed altogether by unknown people.
“This is criminal activity,” Greene said in a nearly 20-minute video posted to Telegram Thursday (3 February).
“It’s vandalism, destruction of property, so when the person gets caught they’re going to be held accountable. But here’s the scary thing — they work in our building!”
She branded the “pathetic” people who vandalised the sign as living in “loserville,” otherwise known as Congress, where she literally was elected to work in.
“People that work in Congress have attacked this sign more than five times now,” she added on another Telegram post about the piece of card.
Last year, Republican lawmakers launched more than 100 legislative attacks against trans rights, according to legislative trackers Freedom For All Americans and the ACLU. In 2022, they have crammed nearly a dozen into the dockets within weeks.
“They have written hate messages or stolen my sign reportedly,” Greene added. “Time to get another one!”
Marjorie Taylor Greene’s sign vandalised again… and again… and again by opponents
But the sign was quickly daubed by her critics… again.
“Staff that work in my office building are obsessed with this sign and graffiti it or steal it constantly,” she alleged in another post.
This time, people pasted a sign over the “female” part of Greene’s placard which slammed Greene’s use of her faith to justify her hate.
“True Disciples of Christ don’t say the things you say, act the way you act and treat people the way you treat people,” it said.
Greene countered the graffiti with her own – writing about how God “created them, male and female” – before claiming she has hired security because of “all the death threats”.
Among the other times the sign has been improved by vandals, when “Free Palestine” was scribbled on it and when the “are” between “two genders” was replaced by “not”.
Someone even poked fun out of her saying “Mask for thee and not for me,” a reference to when she was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for refusing to comply with Congress’ mask mandate.
Greene said that neither US Capitol Police nor the House sergeant of arms takes her, er, her sign being desecrated seriously enough to instal security cameras for her.
Such threats, she said, do not meet the threshold to require additional security from the agency – so she, of course, blamed that on the speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
“Absolute most pathetic place I’ve ever been in my life,” she added in the video. “Completely disgusts me. It’s totally dysfunctional.
“The Democrats are destroying our county, and then there’s idiots that have to run around and vandalize signs because they’re so triggered by the fact that there are only two genders.”
