The Battlefield franchise has been a mainstay in the first-person shooter genre for 20 years, ever since its debut in 2002 with Battlefield 1942. Since then, the franchise has spawned a dozen games, most of which have been well received. Although it had high player numbers at launch, Battlefield 2042 player numbers dropped by 70% in just two weeks afterward.
