Warning! Spoilers for Ms. Marvel: Beyond The Limit #2 by Marvel Comics

The Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be changing Ms. Marvel’s powers in her live-action debut, and a new comic hints Marvel Comics could be following in suit. In a new preview for Ms. Marvel: Beyond The Limit #2, Kamala Khan’s powers continue to go on the fritz as the hero ends up encountering a copycat version of herself.

Fans of Kamala Khan were surprised to learn the MCU is seemingly changing the hero’s powers in her upcoming live-action series, making her able to create constructs, opposed to her usual embiggen powers from the comics. While the power changes haven’t been officially confirmed, promotional artwork teased new abilities for Ms. Marvel. Interestingly, Ms. Marvel: Beyond The Limit writer Samira Ahmed previously revealed that the new miniseries would play around with and explore Khan’s powers, adding they were “maybe pushing them.” She told EW, “I don’t want to give any spoilers, but there are gonna be some questions that arise about the source of her powers and what that means.

After nearly getting trampled by an elephant and saved by a hero with similar embiggening powers. However, for Ms. Marvel, her powers are on the fritz, as the explosion in her cousin’s lab in Chicago somehow seems to be affecting her abilities. Marvel has not confirmed Kamala Khan’s powers are changing in the comics, and it would honestly be a disservice to the character and her identity if that does happen. However, her powers going on the fritz ahead of her MCU debut, where her powers appear much different, would be quite a coincidence if they weren’t related, especially considering the recent synergy between the live-action adaptations and the comics.

It sure seems Marvel Comics is about to make a big change with the character. The comics seem more likely to be detaching the hero’s powers from The Inhumans, given their recent failure in the MCU. That wouldn’t be nearly as problematic as if they took away her embiggen powers or changed them drastically. However, with Ms. Marvel’s powers seemingly becoming something else entirely in the MCU, the comic book version may also see considerable changes. Readers will find out more when Ms. Marvel: Beyond The Limit #2 by Marvel Comics is in comic book stores on Wednesday.
