A new report has corroborated some very old pieces of Bully 2 concept art and screenshots, confirming they’re real. The story of Bully 2’s development is one that has been fabled for many years, but details about it are rather scarce. While there is some information, a lot of it is minimal and even unverified, making it hard to separate fact from fiction.
Bully first released in 2006, taking Rockstar Games’ typical tongue-in-cheek humor and controversial plot points seen throughout the GTA series, and placing them within a school setting. For many years, rumors of a remaster, remake, or sequel have continued to persist, in part fuelled by leaks and rumors. Leaked images and concept art helped keep the hope alive, though Rockstar did not confirm their legitimacy. Former Rockstar developers have now shed new light on Bully 2, revealing not only that it once existed before being canceled, but also revealing some of its features. Some of the new details note that Bully 2‘s map was going to be roughly three times larger than the original map and be much denser with detail.
According to the recent Game Informer report packed with new Bully 2 details, multiple sources have confirmed some of the concept art and screenshots that previously came from the Twitter account Bully 2 Info are legitimate. Shared from the leaker back in 2017, the images largely set the tone, giving an idea of what some of the characters would’ve looked like, while also revealing some environments. Game Informer reports that not all of the leaks from the account are real, leaving some speculation as to which images may not be accurate. There have been rumblings that Bully 2 is still happening, but for now, these few details and pieces of concept art are players have to mull over.
Previous rumors suggested that Bully 2 would have Jimmy staying at his stepdad’s mansion over summer break and this concept art seems to back that up. The aesthetic certainly has a warmer vibe than the original game, which largely revolved around the fall and winter seasons. Details on the story of the canceled Bully 2 are still unknown, but the article does mention Jimmy was intended to be the protagonist once again, backing up previous unverified leaks. It sounds as though there would’ve been a larger focus on the town over exploring a school, so summer break may make the most sense for the setting.
Even if the sequel never happens, Bully 2 influenced Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing a lot of its best ideas to still be seen. Nonetheless, there are some elements that are hard to repurpose in one of Rockstar’s other IP, making Bully a one-of-a-kind franchise that the developer has yet to fully capitalize on. Whether Bully 2 will get the resurrection it deserves and allow fans to live out a summer fantasy remains to be seen, but the images certainly look like the sequel fans are still hoping for.
