Kevin is undeniably one of the cutest kids in the history of movies thanks to his convincingly innocent outlook on life. As he begins to really lose his temper at his family for the first time in the movie, he jumps up and down and yells this to anyone who’ll listen, repeating the final words over and over.
Even though Kevin might not fully grasp the concept of marriage in this quote, and it’s technically a tantrum, it’s hard not to relate to his frustration here.
Kevin Gets His Wish
“I made my family disappear!”
When the audience is first introduced to Kevin, he is really tired of his family and how they treat him. He is so frustrated with them that he wishes that they would disappear. So, when he wakes up the next morning to see that his family is gone, he assumes that he really did make them disappear.
This is a hilarious moment, and seeing the realization dawn in him that his family is gone is great. He then starts to get really excited about the freedom he has, and this is a moment that anyone who has ever been a kid can relate to.
An iconic Home Alone Insult

As far as the McCallister family is concerned, it’s true that they don’t exactly treat Kevin that well. He has many older siblings who find him annoying and in the way.
While Kevin can also be rude to them, his siblings definitely are too mean at times. One of the most iconic lines of Kevin’s family being a jerk to him is this one that’s said by his older sister, Linnie. It’s really hilarious and also fun to say, which makes it one of the best quotes.
Old Man Marley Knows A Lot About Having Family Trouble
“How you feel about your family is a complicated thing. Deep down, you’ll always love them. But you can forget that you love them and you can hurt them, and they can hurt you.”
When Kevin’s elderly neighbor, Marley, is first introduced in the movie, he’s a mysterious and scary figure who Buzz claims is a serial killer. Kevin spends most of the movie terrified of him but then, after a conversation they have at church, Kevin discovers that he’s actually a very kind and helpful old man.
During their short chat, Marley drops a few pearls of wisdom, particularly about having family troubles. Marley has his own issues with his son and shares with Kevin this important insight that taps right into the heart of the movie’s themes about togetherness and forgiveness.
Kevin Watches A Movie Outside His Of Age Range
“I’m gonna give you to the count of 10 to get your ugly, yellow, no-good keister off my property before I pump your guts full of lead.”
Once Kevin is finally alone and unsupervised, one of the previously-forbidden things that he enjoys is some out-of-bounds movies, choosing an old gangster film that contains a violent murder.
A new crime boss, who has presumably risen to his position after murdering the former boss, says this line before skipping over most of the numbers in his count to 10 and gleefully opening fire with his Tommy Gun, much to Kevin’s terror. It’s a short scene but by far one of Home Alone‘s most famous and Kevin puts the recording to good use several times to scare off other people.
Kevin’s Parent’s Wake Up Late
“We slept in!”
One of the funniest scenes in Home Alone is when the family realizes that a power outage had knocked out their alarm clocks the night before, making everyone late for their flight to Paris.
When Kevin’s parents first wake up in a panic, they look at each other across the bed and scream this line in unison, sparking a frantic hurry to get everything together on time. It’s a hugely relatable moment that’s hard not to remember whenever similar situations crop up in real life.
Old Man Marley Is Very Wise
“You can be a little old for a lot of things. You’re never too old to be afraid.”
Another pearl of wisdom that Marley gives to Kevin during their short conversation in the church is about fear, which is another of the movie’s main themes.
Kevin is afraid of fairly simple unknowns in his life, like chores or the scary old furnace in the basement but Marley, towards the end of his life, is scared of unknowns like not knowing what his son will say to him after the two haven’t spoken in a long time. The fact that the two characters can help each other with their fears is heartwarming and a big part of what makes Home Alone so beloved.
Mitch Murphy Waves Goodbye To The McAllisters

This funny line comes from the McCallisters’ talkative neighbor, Mitch Murphy, who only has a brief appearance but has an important place in the story as he’s part of the series of mishaps that allow Kevin to be left behind in the first place.
As he’s enthusiastically looking through one of the McCallisters’ bags in the van that’s going to take them to the airport, Mitch is accidentally counted as Kevin while his back is turned. He waves goodbye to the McCallisters with this memorable sendoff but, alas, they fail to notice their mistake.
Kevin Takes Dental Hygiene Very Seriously
“Has this toothbrush been approved by the American dental association?”
One of the things that made audiences fall in love with Kevin so much is that he’s a really smart kid who is concerned about things that usually only adults are. He’s pretty funny and also rather sweet, and this is one line that shows that.
When Kevin goes out shopping by himself to get groceries, he tries to pick out a new toothbrush but is very concerned about whether or not it’s a good one. It’s definitely funny to see him try to figure out how to take care of things on his own.
Kevin Accidentally Steals A Toothbrush
“I’m a criminal.”
Unfortunately for Kevin, his road to independence sometimes hits a few speedbumps as it does when he attempts to buy the toothbrush but gets scared by Marley, his elderly neighbor that he’s initially afraid of but later befriends.
Running out of the store in fright with the toothbrush still in his hand, Kevin is chased as a shoplifter but gets away after a fun chase through a skating rink. On his way home, staring down at his plastic plunder, Kevin shakes his head laments that he’s now technically a successful criminal.
Everybody Hates Kevin
“Kevin, you’re such a disease.”
This is another quote that one of Kevin’s older siblings says to him the night before Kevin is left behind. Given that so many of his family members were saying some pretty rude things to him on the same evening, it’s easy to see why Kevin wanted them all to go away.
Seeing the sibling interactions from Home Alone is definitely one thing that makes the movie rather realistic and relatable to anyone that has brothers or sisters.
Kevin’s Family Really Can Be Mean
“What am I supposed to do, shake his hand and say ’congratulations, you’re an idiot’?”
Another of the parade of insults that Kevin is subjected to in the opening of the movie, this time for the crime of not knowing how to pack his own suitcase.
On a quest to find someone who can show him, he finds no sympathy from the family and Megan delivers this quotable putdown to confirm that she’s already said tough luck to poor Kevin.
Fuller Is Worryingly Thirsty

If dealing with his immediate family wasn’t enough frustration for Kevin, he also has to deal with all of the extended family staying at his house. Uncle Frank is a total jerk, and his cousin Fuller is kind of dumb.
While he’s known to wet the bed, he keeps drinking a ton of soda anyway, and Kevin is not thrilled at the prospect of having to share a bed with him, and really who can blame him? Seeing Fuller be rather mischievous and shameless about drinking the soda is also really funny.
Kevin Says Grace
“Bless this highly nutritious microwavable macaroni and cheese dinner and the people who sold it on sale. Amen.”
Throughout Home Alone, Kevin gets more and more used to taking care of things at home by himself, and he’s clearly a very smart and capable kid.
While he misses his family, he tries his best to take care of himself while they’re gone. He is clearly very thoughtful as he takes the time to be thankful for his food before eating it. This quote is extremely adorable and shows that he’s just a good-hearted kid.
Marv Names The Team
“All the great ones leave their mark. We’re the Wet Bandits.”
This list wouldn’t be complete without a quote from the iconic burglars of the movie, Harry and Marv, who are dubbed “The Wet Bandits” by Marv because of his “calling card” of blocking the sinks and turning the taps on to flood a house after they’ve robbed it.
Neither of the thieves is very smart but Marv is definitely the least bright of the pair as, after Harry’s protestation at Marv’s calling card throughout most of the movie, the police officers arresting them at the end of the movie let them know that the trademark habit has now automatically identified all of the other houses that they’ve hit.
Kevin’s Mom Realizes What She Forgot

When the rest of Kevin’s family is rushing to get to the airport, they don’t notice at all that Kevin isn’t with them.
It’s only when on the plane that Kate, Kevin’s mom, feels uneasy and like she’s forgotten something. This is when it finally dawns on her that they left Kevin behind, and she lets out this iconic scream.
Home Alone Makes Up Its Own Classic Movie Quote
“Keep the change, ya filthy animal.”
If there’s any line from the movie that has been quoted the most, it’s likely this one. This line actually comes from the fictional gangster movie Angels With Filthy Souls that Kevin watches.
The other quote people often say is “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal,” but that line actually isn’t said in the first film but only in the sequel. But, both of these lines are really hilarious and dramatic, and people will love to say them for years to come.
Kevin Enjoys Being Alone
“I’m eating junk food and watching rubbish, you better come out and stop me!”
When Kevin first gets the entire house to himself, he’s clearly thrilled. These moments really capture what it feels like to be a kid and to actually get some freedom to do whatever you want.
He’s happy that he’s able to eat whatever he wants and do whatever he wants. Of course, the first thing he decides to do includes eating a ton of junk food and watching a movie that isn’t appropriate for a kid.
Buzz Finds Out What Kevin’s Been Up To In His Absence

This is actually the final line in Home Alone and takes the movie out on a big laugh as, just as everything seems right again and that Kevin has gotten away with everything, his older brother, Buzz, evidently finds out off-camera that Kevin has completely wrecked his room and gone through all of his things.
It’s a great gag even if it’s a little odd that Kevin managed to defeat the Wet Bandits and clean up all of his traps in time before his family got home yet still somehow forgot about Buzz’s room.
Kevin Makes A Better Christmas Wish
“Would you please tell him that instead of presents this year, I just want my family back.”
While most of the best and most memorable lines from Home Alone are the funny ones, there are a few great quotes that are more heartwarming and serious.
When Kevin goes to meet with Santa, he tells the fake Santa to send a message to the real Santa about what he wants for Christmas. It’s really sweet and a little heartbreaking that all he wants is his family back as he’s learned how much they mean to him.
