Exclusive Interview with Emily Ronna

Celebrity, Music, News

Hi, thanks for sitting down with us today. I feel like this doesn’t get asked enough in interviews, so how are you doing today?

Oh wow, I really appreciate you asking that. I’m alright! I just got my vaccine booster and am waiting to see if I’m gonna feel like shit or not haha

Tell us about your relationship with music. Do you turn to it more when you’re sad or down, or when you’re happy?

My relationship with music is actually kind of weird. Since it’s my job now, I don’t find listening to it relaxing anymore. And since all my sessions are scheduled ahead of time I have to force myself to write regardless of what my mood is. I definitely enjoy it more when I’m happy, which is kind of weird.

What themes seem to show up over and over in your songs, if any? Why do you think that is?

My EP is called “Sex & Depression” and that is because of a joke I have with myself that I can only write about sex and depression. I have an anxiety disorder and one of the ways I cope with it is talking about what it’s like openly, so that translates in my lyrics a lot. And I’ve been writing about sex since I was a teenager. It started because I liked watching people’s jaws drop every time I said something raunchy. I’m a big fan of shock value. Also I’m sex positive and the more it’s written about, especially by womxn, the more normalized it will be.

What have you found most difficult about releasing music?

There’s so much anxiety and depression in releasing music. You’ve made this thing that you love and cherish and you feel like all of your self-worth is wrapped up in it, and if it doesn’t get the reach you want it to get, that can feel pretty awful. I’ve definitely had to learn to not be so hard on myself and understand my music will have a longer shelf life than the night it comes out.

Tell us about what you’re working on right now!

I’m actually going to start mixing my next EP soon!! Sex & depression part 2 is coming at you soon haha

Do you have a favorite lyric or verse from your most recent single?

“Size up the rest while I size me to death” from the chorus of “Scroll.” I love that line. it gut punched me when we wrote it and it still gut punches me now.

Thanks so much for chatting with us today! Where can we find your music online?

Nah, thank YOU! @_emilyronna is my social media handle and you can listen to music on any streaming service that’s available.
