Darkseid’s New Costume Makes Him Cooler, With One Tiny Change

Warning: Spoilers for Infinite Frontier #6!

When it comes to villains, Darkseid is an ultimate evil that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the heroes of DC Comics contend with on a regular basis, and now he’s just been given a subtle update to his iconic costume that makes him way cooler than ever before! It might be a simple color swap, but the implications of this new look are way more far-reaching than fans could have initially suspected, especially moving forward.

Technically revealed in full detail during the events of a previous issue in DC’s Infinite Frontier limited series, Infinite Frontier #6, by Joshua Williamson and Xermanico, hits the ground running as Darkseid — decked out in his sweet new look — reigns hell down on the assorted multiversal heroes of the DC Universe. Rebirthed into this new form only a short time ago, Darkseid arrives on the scene with a purpose, brandishing his new power in a way that forces the heroes he’s fighting against to quickly realize they’re dealing with a version of their greatest enemy that may be too much for them to handle.

Shooting an overpowered version of his patented Omega Beams around the battlefield, fans will notice that not only are these deadly attacks now tinted black with a grey aura but that Darkseid’s costume has been subtly changed to match as well. Combining his other various past selves into “one ultimate version” of himself due to the recent restoration of the multiverse, Darkseid’s makeover is immediately recognized as being slightly different compared to what fans are used to seeing, but similar enough that it doesn’t alienate admirers of the original design.

Darkseid new grey costume

Dressed in a familiar-looking set of armor-like garb, Darkseid’s cracked and greyed skin is now complemented by a darker grey uniform (instead of the usual blueish color) that’s more or less situated on his body in the same way his standard threads normally are. Less apparent in previous appearances in the Infinite Frontier series than what’s seen here, Xermanico’s specific art style highlights Darkseid’s new, cooler look in a way that better draws attention to his current status in the DC Universe as the ultimate version of himself.

Running with this all-grey costume, Darkseid feels more imposing, towering — monolithic even — than previous incarnations, leaning into his terrifying form and emphasizing the fact that he’s basically a walking granite statue that can crush any opposition he may face without breaking a sweat. And while this more monochrome look might not seem as iconic as Darkseid’s original costume, it perfectly encapsulates and conveys that Darkseid has transcended his previous form, and entered a new state in his godly status that’s unheard of at this point in the character’s illustrious career.

Infinite Frontier has given fans a lot of surprises during its short six-issue run, and debuting Darkseid’s new costume most definitely stands out as one of its best. So although Darkseid’s plans for the DC Universe are only hinted at by issue’s end, getting a cool upgrade to his iconic look is a great start for what will no doubt act as an opening salvo of a much bigger push in this villain’s latest attempt at finally making the DC multiverse — and its omniverse — his to control.
