Guardians of the Galaxy Game: All Villains Confirmed

Movies

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game has had many teaser trailers detailing foes the superhero team will face throughout the game. Though many villains are still lurking in the shadows, developer Eidos-Montréal has given fans a clear picture of their universe’s threats. Some villains may seem familiar from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but others offer exciting new dangers.

A Galactic War initiated by the Chitauri precedes the events of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The Chitauri, who had teamed up with Thanos, used their military might to wipe out entire civilizations. This led to several species going extinct, and other planets becoming uninhabitable. During this war, Guardians’ Drax killed Thanos, though he continued his hunt after believing the Mad Titan had survived. However, the game will focus on the ragtag team of superheroes venturing throughout the galaxy as heroes-for-hire, which will set them against many galactic threats.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s first major villain recently appeared in one of its many teaser trailers. Known only as Grand Uniter Raker, this cyborg is the leader of the Universal Church of Truth. This shadow organization seeks to spread its ideology and “Promise” to the entire galaxy. The teaser trailer also introduces a secondary villain in league with Grand Uniter Raker, who calls herself the Matriarch. The threat this organization poses is substantial, given the massive size of their ship and the powerful minions that are able to trap the Guardians.

Lady Hellbender will also appear as one of Guardians of the Galaxy’s villains, though in a less cultish way as the Universal Church of Truth. Her presence was confirmed in a teaser trailer, which showed her skills in taming the rarest and most vicious beasts. In the trailer, the Guardians are attempting to swindle her. Players will have the option to sell either GotG’s Groot or Rocket Raccoon into her care for a hefty price. This business transaction is a fraud, and given the brutal death of the previous vendor, it’s unlikely the Guardians will remain in her good graces for long.

The game revealed more villains in promotional material. The Chitauri appeared in each of the Guardians’ files, having been responsible for a tragic event in each of their backstories. Though the Galactic War is over, there are likely more than a few Chitauri still roaming the galaxy. Thanos could also make an appearance, as Drax doesn’t believe he is dead. This detail seems too important to not be brought up at some point in Guardians of the Galaxy’s campaign. Gamora’s sister, Nebula, could also appear and take vengeance for her sister’s betrayal. She is confirmed to exist in the game’s universe, and almost killed her sister the last time they met. The confirmed villains who exist in the game’s universe so far are:

  • Grand Uniter Raker
  • The Matriarch
  • The Universal Church of Truth
  • Lady Hellbender
  • The Chitauri
  • Thanos, the Mad Titan
  • Nebula

No matter what monsters the Guardians of the Galaxy face, the combined strength of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket will surely be enough to conquer it. As the release date draws closer, more details about Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy may be revealed. With the enormity of the Marvel universe, Eidos-Montréal has many villains and adventures to choose from.
