‘Quake’ Remaster Now Available For PC, Consoles; Limited Run Offering Loaded Physical Versions

Horror

As was expected, Bethesda kicked off QuakeCon with the announcement that Quake has gotten the remaster treatment. Available as a free upgrade for those who own it on PC or consoles, the remaster is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store for $9.99. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions are “coming soon” and will be available as a free upgrade to users who purchase the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions.

So, what’s in the remaster? Besides the new 4K and widescreen resolution support, Quake now features enhanced models, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and a new theme song from Trent Reznor! And yes, the soundtrack is intact.

The remake includes both of the original’s DLC packs, the Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity. MachineGames got in on the fun by contributing two new expansion packs called Dimension of the Machine and Dimension of the Past.

Of course, the bread-and-butter of Quake is its multiplayer. As such, the remake’s campaign comes with online and local split-screen co-op for up to four players. You also have the 8-player deathmatches, and 4-player local split-screen matches. Crossplay support is also available.

And if that’s not enough for you, Limited Run Games has gotten in on the fun. Available for pre-order on August 27, players can choose from the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Editions on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

The Standard version has the game on physical media, while the Limited Deluxe version has the game, a classic “Big Box”, Steelbook case, metal keychain, a reversible 18×24″ poster, and a commemorative metal coin. The Ultimate edition includes all of that, with a motorized rotating Quad Damage statue, a tshirt, enamel pin, the Ring of Shadows, a 5″ metal Shambler figure, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and a Nail Gun ammo outer box to house all of it.
