Andy Cohen Shocked By Backlash Against Leah McSweeney During Her Second Season On Real Housewives Of New York

Reality TV

This season of the Real Housewives of New York has been dark, and fans are not afraid to let everybody know it. And I’m not even denying that this season has been particularly boring and off for our big city ladies. There’s a major divide when it comes to newbie Eboni K. Williams bringing conversations about race to the forefront. Leah McSweeney, who was loved as a ravioli-throwing rookie, has been receiving a whole lot of backlash. Is it because she put Holla Heather Thomson in her place in the Hamptons? Or because she always throws age digs at Ramona Singer? Honestly, I’m pretty neutral about Leah, but the vitriol thrown her way does seem to add up.

Leah’s undoubtedly had a rough second season of RHONY. She lost her grandmother. She’s on a journey of being sober again. And, as always, she’s been pretty honest about her mental health and the struggles she faces from being on the show. Even the Ramonacoaster, who rarely gives her BFF Sonja Morgan a pass, told the viewers to be easy on her. But that also might be because she’s trying to save her own job.

Andy Cohen recently weighed in on all the Leah hate during a RadioAndy broadcast on SiriusXM, Reality Blurb reports. Particularly, the topic of Leah slamming fans for flip-flopping who once called for a more diverse cast to be bashing the conversations about racism on the show. Andy was shocked at how the viewers have staunchly changed their tune towards Leah her sophomore season.

“People are really on her this season and they’re saying she’s … I mean, I haven’t… people online, at least, are turning on her in a way that I’ve not seen from one season to the next,” Andy said. His guest, Michael Rapaport, suggested Leah’s simply not “built to be a housewife” and Andy seemed to agree.

You have to commend Leah for coming in fast and hot last season. The tiki torch throws were iconic. And it was nice to see someone join Dorinda Medley to really try to hold Ramona accountable for once that wasn’t Bethenny Frankel. And while this season is definitely not her best, it is a little strange to see all the hate thrown her way. Especially considering her honestly about the rough parts of her personal life.

Maybe Jill Zarin is right and fans are really turning on the RHONY ladies because none of them are married. That, or they’re really just not used to RHONY having a straight-up bad season.
