Actor, writer, and director Josh Ruben has had one hell of a first two years as a filmmaker here on the horror scene, kicking things off with last year’s Scare Me and now enjoying similarly rave reviews for his new video game adaptation Werewolves Within. It was Scare Me that introduced Ruben to horror fans, a unique horror anthology bursting with creativity.

Ruben himself stars alongside Aya Cash in Scare Me, an intimate movie wherein the two characters tell one another scary stories on the fly. Those spooky stories they tell become the tales we as viewers experience in the horror-comedy anthology, brought to life only by Ruben and Cash creatively expressing them to one another within a cabin on a dark winter’s night.

Will Ruben ever return to that method of storytelling in some kind of Scare Me sequel or follow-up? Chatting with BD’s Boo Crew Podcast, he suggests that may indeed be in the cards.

I’ve thought about [a sequel],” Ruben explains. “I mean, who would’ve thought that anyone would be interested in even exploring something remotely in that world. But there may be something in the works, which is bonkers, so bonkers. Way sooner than I ever thought I would be talking about it. But, we’ll see. It’s a herculean effort to make anything these days.”

Ruben continues, “If I can just stay in the genre, whether it’s creating objects out of space to scare people in a cabin or making werewolf movies, I’ll take it.”
