Rock Band Dev’s Fuser Is Free This Week With Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo has announced a free week of Fuser for Nintendo Switch, available for Nintendo Switch Online members. From the creators of Rock Band and Dance Central, the rhythm game provides the full DJ experience, and players can mix chart-topping hits for virtual crowds of thousands. The game includes songs from artists such as Dua Lipa, The Weeknd and Lil Nas X. This isn’t the first time the rapper’s been seen on Switch, with one gamer recreating Lil Nas X’s “Montero” in Animal Crossing.

The days of having to carry huge plastic peripherals for rhythm games like Guitar Hero and DJ Hero may be long gone, but the genre itself has continued to attract players looking to take center-stage and impress their virtual fans. Fuser offers over 200 tracks to mix, with the option to purchase more through new weekly DLC. The game tasks players with successfully mixing the best songs, offering challenges with new skills and instruments to unlock. Fuser even has multiplayer, with players able to play collaboratively or go head-to-head in Battles mode. The game’s multiplayer is cross-play, meaning players can team up or take on gamers using other platforms. When Fuser released, the game was met with critical acclaim, earning high ratings on aggregator review site Metacritic.

Budding musicians who haven’t yet given Fuser a try are now able to access the game for free on Nintendo Switch. Nintendo announced the news on Twitter, confirming the game will be available for free for a whole week for Nintendo Switch Online members. Players who enjoy their time with Fuser can also grab the game at a discount, with 25 percent off until July 9. Switch gamers who want to play Fuser can access the game right now, though it’s worth noting the free trial ends July 5, at 11:59 PM PT. Players who don’t have a Switch can still pick up Fuser at a discount. The game is currently 25 percent off on Steam until July 8, while PlayStation gamers can get the same discount until July 7.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that allows gamers to play online. Multiplayer games on Switch don’t have online access without the subscription, though there are other perks to being an Online member. Signing up gives gamers exclusive member offers, such as the chance to buy limited-edition products. Similar to the library of games unlocked by PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass membership, Nintendo Switch Online does offer a back catalog of games, though only covering the NES and SNES era. While there are some great classic games included in the subscription price, gamers are hoping for Game Boy Advance games with Switch Online.

It’s not known if Nintendo plans to expand its Switch Online services, but with many classic consoles and handhelds under its belt, it’s hoped that more games will be introduced. Along with its older titles, Switch Online has enjoyed some free-to-play battle royale games, such as Super Mario Bros 35. The game was made available as part of Mario’s 35th-anniversary celebrations, but was removed on April 1. Tetris 99, which turns the classic block-matching video game into a competitive online title, is another Switch Online-only game. Switch gamers downloading their free trial version of Fuser might also want to check out the recently-released Pac-Man 99, which is also free with Switch Online, and puts a chaotic multiplayer spin on the classic title.
