The summer is here in the Northern Hemisphere, and everyone wants to believe the coronavirus pandemic is over. Restrictions have eased and people are ripping their masks off in a 21st Century version of bra-burning.
It may be a bit premature, and certainly people are still contracting the virus. Each and every tally and life matters, but some just get more media spotlight than others. In our beloved Bravo community several Real Housewives and their families have contracted and, thankfully, recovered from the disease. Shannon Beador, Kyle Richards, Frank Catania, Margaret Josephs, Joe Beningo, Marge Senior, Kathy Hilton, Dorit Kemsley, and Jennifer Aydin all recovered from the coronavirus. And now one more familiar Bravo face is battling COVID-19.
On Sunday night, Kelly Dodd shared that her daughter, Jolie Dodd had contracted the virus. Kelly’s 15-year-old daughter admitted to feeling “gross” in a video that Kelly shared to her Instagram Stories. Jolie is wearing a blue-and -white striped tank top, a pearl choker, and a matching bracelet. She looks well, and shows a good appetite eating soup and toasted bread.
“My daughter has COVID. I thought it was over. She’s got COVID? How do you feel?” an understandably worried Kelly asked Jolie. The symptoms are currently mild, and don’t seem to be affecting Jolie. The teen even gave her mother an annoyed look as Kelly continually told Jolie how great she looked.
“You look so pretty… You do! I made you soup, bread. Drink a lot of water. You look great,” Kelly said at the conclusion of the video, as reported by Reality Blurb.

These are more empathetic comments than Kelly has given to date regarding COVID-19. Indeed, Kelly will be sensitive to the fact that it’s her daughter that has taken ill. So she’s progressed on from her April 2020 comment that the virus is, “God’s way of thinning the herd,” and “nobody [was] dying.”
Kelly had to quickly backtrack on both those “insensitive” messages following fan backlash. “I was by no means minimizing deaths that have been caused by this virus and I feel for their loved ones. However, Orange County has 133 deaths out of three million people, much lower than most. I felt encouraged and excited that people were out and about and there was some [sense] of normalcy,” Kelly explained at the time.

Yes, Kelly’s track record for insensitive comments is quite lengthy. She had to, yet again, explain herself after celebrating a chance at mask-less indoor dining last spring. “And by the way,” Kelly continued, “I was wearing a mask. [My mom] was not wearing the mask. And no patrons when we were eating were wearing masks. The servers were but you can’t eat with the mask on. So get your facts straight!”
But now that the coronavirus has hit home, Kelly has adopted a more appropriate tone. In November 2020, COVID-19 put her mother, Bobbi Meza, in the ICU. Thankfully, Bobbi recovered and we send our best wishes to Jolie for a speedy resolution as well.
