Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Siege Of Paris, DLC Plans Detailed By Ubisoft

Players got a real look at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s next major DLC pack, The Siege of Paris, at the recent Ubisoft Forward E3 broadcast. Details included a closer look at the gameplay and storyline as Valhalla crosses the sea into Frankia for the latest expansion.

Players and critics of the series have noted that seven months after its release, Valhalla has had less supplementary content than its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which had several DLC packs, both free and paid, released in the same amount of time after its release. Ubisoft promised a strong post-launch program of new content, but Valhalla thus far has only released its first major DLC expansion, Wrath of the Druids, along with minor content updates, so players have been understandably eager for the next expansion. The second major paid DLC pack, The Siege of Pariswas announced at the same time as Wrath, but details about the DLC have been sketchy at best, including when it was actually coming out.

The Siege of Paris was undoubtedly the focal point at E3 Ubisoft Forward broadcast, particularly in the wake of a recent data leak from Ubisoft that revealed several details of what players can expect to see in the pack. The date uncovered in the data mine was set for November 9, 2021, but that’s widely considered to be a placeholder date, and Ubisoft has confirmed in today’s broadcast that Valhalla’s Siege of Paris DLC will release this summer, along with new weapons, gear, and enemies.

In addition, Ubisoft Forward revealed that there will be significantly more content coming beyond the expansion, including the return of black box infiltration missions, the introduction of one-handed sword-fighting, the Discovery Tour: Viking Age, and, most importantly and for the first time in Assassin’s Creed history, continued post-release support in the game’s second year. This means a second year of new content, updates, and DLC, although whether or not that DLC will include major paid expansion packs remains to be seen. The new Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be free to players who own Valhalla, and offer any history buffs or curious players a chance to step into the boots of the people who actually lived during the Viking Age and earn exclusive rewards while learning more about this critical period in world history.

While more information about The Siege of Paris is definitely welcome, it’s also significant that more support in the game’s second year is coming. Ubisoft is already under scrutiny by players who feel the company has been prioritizing paid microtransactions over DLC. But the company insists that new content has been coming in at a trickle rather than a stream to ensure the expansions are properly tested and bug-free – particularly in a post-Cyberpunk 2077 world – and to its credit, Wrath of the Druids received pretty high marks in that regard, so the promise of more DLC and continued support should satiate their fans who have come to expect more from Assassin’s Creed post-releases.

So while Valhalla’s audience still hasn’t gotten a release date for Siege of Paris, it seems to be a pretty fair trade-off. Summer is just around the corner anyway, which means Siege isn’t particularly far off either if Ubisoft is sticking to its promise of a summer release. And most importantly, even after The Siege of Paris, Eivor’s story will continue, with Ubisoft’s support, well into next year.
