All The Time” is the irresistible new hit from America’s Got Talent breakout star, Kechi Okwuchi. Known for her inspiring survivor’s story, Kechi’s single is from her self-titled album KECHI. An enthusiastic beat, lofty lyrics and voice that could sing just about anything to make it sound beautiful, Kechi quickly captivates the listener with this pop gem. Fans of dance music, too, will have a chance to join in on the fun – “All The Time” runs circles around the mind like any great earworm.
Rewind in my mind, going on, on, on she sings. Her tenor is a wonderful mix of soul, blues and pop. She reminds me a lot of Katy Perry and Anna Kendrick (“Cups”, Pitch Perfect soundtrack). When Kechi sings, it’s like a ray of sunshine hitting your body. The warmth, the energized feeling just takes all your troubles away. She has an instant rapport, and her voice just melts away like honey. It’s almost surreal considering the nightmare experience Kechi endured in December 2005. She’s one of two survivors from the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash. After a series of reconstruction surgeries she took to the AGT stage and notched her place in the show’s history, becoming a finalist in the 12th season (2017). Her visible scars and skin graphs are by no means a reflection of her mesmerizing and angelic vocal prowess. Kechi, a Nigerian-American singer, is a vision of hope and has the voice to match. Life is worth fighting for.
“All The Time” has a great clap-click-click rhythm. I felt like it was a perfect undercurrent to Kechi’s voice because she’s soft, modest that it’s almost keeping her grounded. It’s the perfect song to listen to on your headphones, walking about town. It’s easy to imagine this song being the focal point for some advertisement- where the protagonist is on cloud nine, walking around a busy Manhattan street and almost feels empowered to be physically up-in-the-clouds. In other words, “All The Time” makes you feel alive and wonderful. It’s pure joy. I think it’s also an example of a song that life is going to try and throw you off your game, but focus on what’s right in your world, the loves of your life and who you love, and you will be just fine.
You don’t have to hear the resilience, the fight in Kechi’s voice. She’s content and she brings love and light to the song with her voice alone. Even if we didn’t know her backstory, the tragedy, “All The Time ” would be a complete triumph. I love the way it tells her story of finding love and lovin’ every minute of this person that has stolen her heart. It’s important to hear songs like this to continue life’s journey – not everyone is always in a bad mood or hurting. It’s a great thing to be happy – let’s share it! Let’s share it with the world, Kechi seems to say. “All The Time” is meant to be shared, and what a gracious gift Kechi is.
