Black Widow star David Harbour posts a candid Instagram photo of the cast while taking a quick break from filming. Slated for a summer release, the upcoming Marvel movie follows titular protagonist Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) as she unexpectedly reunites with central figures from her past. The solo film focuses on an excursion she took after the events of the 2016 Captain America: Civil War and takes place a few years before her death in Avengers: Endgame. In Black Widow, a star-studded group of actors rounds out the rest of the cast, including Harbour, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, and Ray Winstone.

After being delayed multiple times, Black Widow is finally being released in just a few months. While some productions took advantage of release date delays to tweak their movies, Black Widow has been completely finished for a year. With the original release date set for May 2020, Marvel had already released a ton of marketing material and BTS looks at the film. Marvel likely won’t give much more away before Black Widow‘s release in July, but that hasn’t stopped the cast from sharing their own pictures taken on set.

The forthcoming Black Widow film is a hotly-anticipated addition to the MCU. For years, viewers have called for a solo film exploring the backstory of the iconic Black Widow, and many have openly wondered why such a movie is finally being released after her shocking demise in Avengers: Endgame. Despite these concerns, Black Widow endures as a much-beloved figure in the MCU, and there are still many mysteries surrounding her origin story.

Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff was a critical member of the Avengers, and her death shocked and troubled many viewers hoping to know more about her history and to see her flourish in the future. In the trailer of the new film, Harbour’s Red Guardian notably calls his unexpected meeting with Natasha, Yelena Belova (Pugh), and Melina Vostokoff (Weisz) a “family reunion,” setting up a story that will dive into the origins of Natasha’s family tree, as well as the events that transformed her into the deadly Black Widow. While this will be further explored in Black Widow, the above image makes it clear that the cast created a strong bond throughout filming as well.
